Cripes it's a yank!

I'll be doing this strictly OOB as I know absolutely nothing about them and have very few references

I've made a start with the engine which has about a million parts in it! Seems a waste as virtually none of it will be seen at the end. Anyway, here it is waiting to cure before I apply some weathering and general engine type muck.



Cockpit next, but work may interfere with this one a bit.

Mine will probably have folded wings as in my vast research (I read a build/review on t'internet) I have discovered that they don't fit in the down position I will however investigate for myself when I get to that bit.

Is this the Trumpeter kit Steve? If so, I wish you luck making the rivetted hinges for the flaps! I just sold mine on the basis I'd never be able to get them right.

It is Dave. They do a similar thing on their Me 262. I made the hinges not with metal rod but by passing stretched sprue through the PE parts. It is easy to make the 'rivet head' in the plastic simply by applying a hot spatula, screwdriver or similar. I'm seriously contemplating not building the hinges at all but fixing the control surfaces in place.

I must be Laurie! Actually, I've only built the engine because it's the only way of attaching the propeller assembly and getting the exhaust outlets in the correct place

Interesting aircraft choice Steve. I do like the look of the Corsair and I'll be interested to see how this Trumpeter kit builds. I probably wouldn't go to the expense of the Tamiya kit as I'm pretty much a WW2 WTO guy so this cheaper kit could be an option.

I've been bumbling along with the cockpit. I've more or less made it up apart from knowing that the basic colours were black and interior green. I had a couple of internet piccies and Dana Bells' advice that late versions were black 'above the lower edge of the instrument panel'.

Harness is RB Productions again.

I will be changing the colour of that headrest, which didn't come out as I intended, once it has thoroughly dried off

I've built and painted the somewhat complicated tail wheel and arrestor hook assembly. Trumpeter have engineered this in a way that allows the wheel or hook to be posed up or down. It's pointless in my case as the wheel will be down and the hook up on my 'parked' aircraft. Nonetheless I jumped through all the relevant hoops to build it as per the instructions.

Along with the engine and cockpit this completes the major sub assemblies which fit into the fuselage before it can be closed up. Here they are offered up in the correct positions. They all fit very nicely indeed.

Looks a great kit Steve and you're giving it the usual quality treatment.

Can't vouch for this kit's accuracy as so many other Trumpeter offerings but they do engineer a well fitting kit!
