Hi everyone with all this talk of 1/24 scale builds I thought I might like to have ago at one but thought some practice was in order 1st and this is my chosen subject/victim. The kit is cheap and nasty and lacks detail and after a dry fit session last night some fitting issues presented themselves.this will be totally out of the box as I've never brought aftermarket items but might consider them on a better kit. The cockpit as no detail at all just the essentials. My main problem is the painting guide as it's mainly mixed colours of different percentages of shades of colour I don't have. I only use Vallejo paints would any of you be so kind enough to tell me the camo colours for this in the Vallejo range thanks for any help/advice. Pilots already painted and some assembly work started will post pics later once again thanks for any assistance regards John

You will probably have to mix the paints anyway for Vallejo but the colours your after are RAF dark green and ocean grey , the underside doesn't have a name but it's like a very pale yellowish green in humbrol it's number 90 your cockpit should be a litish green with a black instrument panel

The pattern remains the same as for that Mk.V Spitfire, but the colours are different for a Fleet Air Arm scheme from the RAF pattern.

Ocean Grey is replaced by Extra Dark Sea Grey (FS36118). Dark Green is replaced by Dark Slate Grey (a greenish grey colour, FS34096) over Sky (FS34583), which is the same as the RAF colour.

I'm not a Vellejo expert, others may have mixes or alternatives you can use to better match the colours, but from my resources:

Sky = Vallejo Model Air 71009

Dark Slate Grey = Vallejo Model Air 71092

Extra Dark Sea Grey = Vallejo Model Air 71053

I took the conversions from the Vallejo conversion sheet, a PDF freely available for download form their website

Hi Alan, just to avoid confusion the Day Fighter Scheme, which I think you are describing, was Dark Green and Ocean Grey on top over Medium Sea Grey undersides. This superseded the Temperate Land Scheme of Dark Green and Dark Earth over a Sky underside in August 1941.

Joe has already posted the colours for a Fleet Air Arm fighter in the Temperate Sea Scheme.

The camouflage PATTERN of RF*D posted above would be the same for all those schemes, but that Spitfire is in the Day Fighter Scheme colours and a Seafire would be in the Temperate Sea Scheme colours.

Small update along time ago probably about 2yrs I primed (cheap rattle can)this model on the sprue and it's been sitting in the box and now the primer is lifting after contact with masking so I will have to sand it down and prime again.The model had a number of fitting issues so is now sitting in the glue and clamp shop hopefully more progress tomorrow [ATTACH]87211.IPB[/ATTACH]

I know the feeling! I've tried to apply a supplied decal to imitate some taped panel lines on my Corsair only to have it break, despite cutting it into four separate pieces! I've now had to largely paint the feature which I should have done in the first place

Hi John

Despite the fit and primer problems you've managed to pull this around well. If I'm not mistaken this kit is a variation on the old Revell mk1 Spitfire and I'm familiar with the kit parts. It's basic by today's standards but you are making a very good job of putting this together.

I'm interested to see what you make of this kit. Keep up the great work it's coming along very nicely.
