    Gloster Gladiator, Matchbox, 1/72

being done for a matchbox gb elsewhere, no revell repops allowed, only original matchbox

always have great memories of matchbox kits

i was first into modelmaking in the 70's in my teens, grew up in a village where there was two places to buy kits..........the post office was always stocked with airfix (i can even remember when there was airfix paint in squarish glass bottles!), and then there was the newsagent that carried a small stock of revell..............and then along came matchbox .....the newsagent started stocking them as soon as they came out, think the rep didnt even bother going to the post office since they were airfix stockists

matchbox seemed like a breath of fresh air......nice crisply moulded......unusual subjects and of course coming in 2 or 3 colours ......the armour had those bases

ones i remember well would be the boeing p12 and the strikemaster and the halftrack with the aa gun

so for this trip down memory lane i picked up a Gloster Glad for next to nothing.....one i never did back in the day

must be a late issue as it comes in a single colour styrene and not the box with the little window in......i almost feel cheated!

Aah Matchbox! those halcyon days of saving up pocket money, tearing parts of the sprues & sticking it together with as few glue-prints as possible! Was model making more fun in those innocent times?

I loved Matchbox because like Frog they did kits of aircraft none of the other manufacturers would touch.Look forward to seeing this one come together.

When I made a return to modelling in the 80s Matchbox were new kids on the block for me. I was specialising in pre 1939 stuff, so they had a lot to interest me. I made the Gladiator. It was certainly better than the old Airfix one! Hope you enjoy it!

Nice start Paul, I always had a soft spot for the Gladiator, chunky-always looked like she could take on anything in the sky and still bring her crew home.

Another big 'Matchbox' fan. I used to buy one a week from my paper round money

The Gladiator's looking good Paul. What colour(s) styrene was the original release?

I am sure it came as light grey for body work etc and dark grey for wings, the really old Matchbox ones were in orange/red and white/cream IRC.

I'm both surprised and pleased to see so many of us waving the flag for Matchbox. Add me to the list, I love the little kits and still look out for them once in a while.

                              Nice looking build Paul.
