Trumpeter 1/32 US Navy SBD-5/A-24B "Dauntless"

    Hi All

Here's my next build I thought I would try and keep the momentum going so I'm not going to take a break between builds. This of course might not work but I'll give it a go.

Here are the spru shoots not much to say here but they are up to Trumpeter's usual high standard no flash and some fantastic surface detail. As per usual Trumpeter give you a little goody box with clear parts( which are incredibly thin and very much to scale some thing other manufactures should take on board) , tyres(two types) PE parts which even include gun sights and air brakes.

Decals are in good registration with four options and finally the colour chart four options again even an army version in olive drab. I might well opt for this version as this will be different from the norm.

Not sure when this one will kick off, hopefully soon. Thumb nails are all over the place and not in the order I wanted them but it's always the case will I ever work out how to change them.

Looks great Vaughan. I've never built a Trumpeter but the detail looks nice.

It is a great kit. I did the OD Banshee version. Be careful of the decals though I would recommend aftermarket.

Interesting looking aircraft Vaughan. I like these earlier WW11 American aircraft. The radial engine looks good on models.

Also interested in the flaps. They seem to be in pairs one down one up plus provided with so many holes.. Assume this must be an aid to landing on a short aircraft carrier. Air brakes perhaps.

Laurie I mistakingly said air breaks and should have said dive breaks used when dropping its payload.

People talk about Trumpeter being awesome, but seeing the problem Barry had with his Avenger turret and the warning here about the decals, given the price are they really that great given the price? Anyway, I'm sure this one will be good and look forward to seeing it built eventually Vaughan.

Joe - this must be their best 1/32 scale kit. Fit is superb, up to the best Tamiya standard and well worth the money.

Yes, the decals are an issue and a decent aftermarket set will help as I said but that should not deter anyone who might want to get this kit. It really is a very rewarding build.

As for the Avenger, yes if you have a part missing then it is a problem. Just check the kit as soon as you get it and then contact the supplier is a problem while you still have 'consumer rights', in other words don't leave it in your stash 2 years before checking!!!

I will see if I can get a link to my Banshee build of this kit.

                        Like everyone they vary.

Usually they are well engineered kits but let's just say some are more accurate than others. I can't comment on the Dauntless but I'm looking forward to seeing what Vaughan makes of it. The best and most accurate Trumpeter kit I've built is their 1/32 Me 262 which is the best kit of this subject you can get.

I've never had a problem with the properties of Trumpeter's decals, they've always gone on very nicely, but I have had cause to question their accuracy (colour/size/etc).

                        Cheers

                        Steve

I'll tag along with this one. Fancy one in FAA if I can find a reference or two.

It looks like a good kit and I look forward to seeing it come together.

That is quite easy. Write the post in the more options and you can see a preview. There you can high light the image thumbs in the post and then its just drag and drop... if you know what I mean. It takes a couple of tries some times but easy once you have tried it a few times.

Barry thanks for the up on the decals mine look ok but saying that I had an issue when I built Trumpeter's 1/24 Bf109G6 about three years ago they just disintegrated. Joe mentioned about the turret do you have a thread for your build?
