Thanks for the comps guys, Paul this is a nice kit with some fantastic detail I have just started dry fitting the forward and aft cockpit areas so will post some images soon. I've just had a quick look on the net where did you get the Zero was it from Japan? as that's the only suppliers I can find on Amazon and then there's the import duty to pay I presume.

I got the Zero on Ebay and it did come from the far east. I had to pay another ยฃ13 on top of their postage costs, I'm quite annoyed about that, but like you say they're hard to find in the Europe.

I'd earmarked the Zero for a Pearl Harbour build but looking at the Dauntless my thoughts are turning increasingly to Midway.

Great progress and looking forward to the next instalment.

A small amount of progress the office is almost finished most of the components are fitted although there is still detail to add to the fuselage side walls, they really have managed to pack a lot of detail into this office. Undercoated with grey primmer and then on with a top coat of zinc chromate green. I opted for this as a posed to interior green as the Squadron guide suggested that there was evidence that both were used at different times. Belts to add, I will use the P.E ones provided as they are well detailed. Still to build the gun installation there are some nice P.E parts to go with this too.

Office looks to be coming on really well Vaughan. It reminds me of the Trumpeter's Stuka (mainly because they're both 2 seaters) but the level of detail is comparable.

I think this kit will be my next purchase and I'll have your excellent build as something to shoot for.

          Keep up the great work

            Hi Vaughan

Just bought myself the SBD 3 'Midway' version as a Xmas present to myself. It's a clear version kit (as I'm sure you know) not something I'm particularly happy about - has anyone ever built a clear version of anything clear?!!! The progress on your Dauntless inspired me to buy as it does look a great kit, and now that I have it in my mitts I can confirm that view.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this progress as I'm absolutely positive it will be an outstanding model.

Great progress so far (up to your usual high standards).

            Cheers

            P

Good on ya Paul there's nothing like treating yourself at Christmas, I presume it has as much detail as the SBd-5. It's getting on for nearly a month and I've still got a long way to go before I complete the office as there's a considerable amount of detail to add to the fuselage side walls. My mojo is a bit low again so not sure when I will be back at the bench. I would say watch this space but think you might fall asleep waiting.

Hey Vaughan, you take as long as you like. It's always a pleasure watching one of your builds come together no matter how long it takes, and they always result in a stunning model.

With regards to the SBD3, I've not had a proper look yet but I'm assuming commonality in the sprues and, if this is any indication, the large box is packed full of parts.

Hope to see an update soon but only when you're ready. If it helps I may have an update on the Spits this weekend.

                All the best

                Paul

                      Hi Vaughan

Any update on the Dauntless? I was enjoying this build until a extended period of interior decorating took over my life recently.

Hope you're well and the need to build is with you.

                      Cheers

Thanks for asking Paul model building has gone on hold at the moment not really had the inclination to get back to the bench. Not sure when I'll be in the right frame of mind to contiue. Thanks for asking again.

Well I'm back on the case after nearly a year. The Airacobra is on the back bench for a while in fact it sits on the work bench so it keeps reminding me to get on with it . I don't normally have two on the go I will blame my mojo for that. Maybe swapping from one to the other will keep my enthusiasm up.

I think on the last instalments I was still working on the office and had more to add plus some weathering which is now done. There is a lot of detail which despite having a large canopy will not be that visible, but hey it's worth doing I know it's there. The extra detail is a dry fit but I will glue later today. The next instalments should be a lot quicker that's a promise.
