Great looking Thunderbolt so far. Those Eduard masks look good.

Finished painting some parts red and pre-shaded the underside of the fuselage and wings so that I can apply tamiya XF-19 sky grey later on.

I also airbrushed Aqua gloss on the dark green top, and for some reason it turned from a very smooth surface to a rough one. Why is this happening? Isn't a gloss coat meant to even and smoothen things out?

      Not much pre-shading needed

At first I tried to airbrush red directly onto the green but the green would show through so I painted it white and then red and it worked

I finally got some alclad aluminium paint but it says I need a special airbrush cleaner. Would a normal cleaner work?

      see you next time

Nice kite, but I prefer the later "tear drop" canopy variant.

Looking very nice Ivan. As for the cleaner I don't use Alclad so I can't help you there, but I'm sure someone will be along soon with the answer for you

I finished the engine and masked off the red tail today. The engine was very easy to assemble, was made of only three parts and it had some great details.

Took forever to mask because of the two little protruding rudder holders that had to be painted olive drab

I painted the pistons titan silver and the gearbox metallic grey

After the paint, I airbrushed a clear gloss coat and added a dark brown wash

Unfortunately, most of the engine detail will not be visible once the cowling is put into place.

Finished the front part of the aircraft and glued it on. It fit perfectly and no filler was needed. I then pained it all olive drab.

I decided to put the cowlings in the closed position

                  No gaps

I got myself some alclad thinner so I used alclad dull aluminium to paint the wheel hubs and the land gear supports. I also painted the underside in light grey.

masked off and ready to be painted light grey

The landing gear turned out nicely I think

                      First coat of light grey

                      Test fitting the landing gears

Finished paining the underside in grey but when I removed the masking tape, I found that there were stripes left from it so I painted over with a thin coat of olive drab.

I decided to paint the wheel wells with a brush rather than an airbrush.

Some touching up needed on the gloss red needed
