Sadly it's always the case Tony, did exactly the same thing with a Harrier pre painted conopy years ago. Just like when you drop a piece of bread and butter on the floor, sods law it will always land butter side down. Great build thread, the planes look good and the comparison is very interesting.

They're coming along nicely Tony. Been there with the tiny bits. Good that you had some spare canopies ?

Again? I think you should do your modelling barefoot!

They both look to be going together very nicely and neat start to the painting. Hope you found all the dropped little pieces.

What a great comparison. Now tell me, did you try matching opposite fuselages to see if they were the same ?

Slowly these are moving on . They have both been painted and are now drying after a couple of coats
of johnsons Klear . The slovakian machine features a very heavy mottle on the fuselage sides which was tricky to do without overdoing it . Theyre both ready for decals and further fettling now .

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

They look great Tony, excellent work on the mottle. Not exactly the biggest aircraft type to work on in 1/72

Airbrush paul , theres actually two different colours used in the mottle ( RLM74, RLM75 ) but theyre so similar you cant really tell !

I wonder if the German riggers were allowed to do their mottle freehand. Probably not, that wouldn't be the German way would it ?

I imagine they would have colin , it would be very hard to define a set pattern , this one however was probably mottled by the slovaks after delivery , ive never seen a german 109 with as heavy a mottle and all the way down the fuselage too .

Latest progress - a little bit of touching up was needed on the engine and guns of the special hobby kit , both kits were then glossed and subsequently decalled . They've both now had a couple of light coats of matt and ive started to add the final pieces starting with the undercarriage . Lots of tiny bits to go on still , such as the wing guns, mass balances , aerials and pitots . Click image for larger version
