    1/32 Revell/Special Hobby P 39 D Airacobra

Well it's been a while 6 months to be exact. I've put away the Dauntless and maybe will come back to it at a later date.

Anyway I made a start a few days back on this model as the title suggests this is in fact a re-boxing of the Special Hobby kit. Detail is not bad considering its age the office may be a bit sparse but i will add some seat belts which will help.

Nice start Vaughan with your usual precision. Like that.

Not my scale but very interesting to watch especially the greater detail on the larger scal.

Where did you buy those multi coloured pegs.

Nice to see something a bit different to the usual Spitfire/Mustang/ME109. Doesn't look too bad a kit.At least the exhausts are hollowed out.Ive built the old 1/48 Monogram kit which has an open gun bay option. That would look nice in this scale.

Great start Vaughan, looks very nice indeed so far. Re the pegs, my missus keeps asking why we never have enough clothes pegs

Thanks guys this should make an interesting project. Looking at the instructions I've got to cram 50g in the nose otherwise it will be a tail sitter. Laurie no probs with the pegs we have another set for the washing.

Nice start Vaughan. The kit looks a good fit if the dry-fit shots are anything to go by. Also, the exhausts look quite nice.

                  Looking forward to the progress.

                  Cheers

Yeah the exhaust came in two parts hence they're hollow a nice touch I think it's a shame that Revell didn't follow this example with their recent 109's. No real progress today just a lot of dry fitting. On another note does anyone have some references on the radio( I presume it's the radio) re wiring behind the pilot as I cant find any amongst all the walk arounds.

                          Hi Vaughan

Had a quick look online to find some pics of the airacobra radio wiring and could only find this. Although not ideal, in the absence of any other reference at least it gives some direction.

                          Hope this helps

                          Cheers

Thanks for that Paul. Interesting that the radio is facing the opposite direction to the Revell instructions. It's odd that there is little information and photos of this part of the plane. Several restorations only show a dismantle area that I need to Know about, one restoration has a green box that extends below the rear shelf. Some P39s appeared to have no radio behind the pilot, others had two boxes as seen in the Eduard 1/48 scale model.Even a cutaway drawing show no radio. Well I'm just going to make a guess on this one.
