Mitsubishi Ka-14 "The wind rises" fine molds 1/48

Quick build hopefully, need to finish by mid next month for a club display. I hope I can manage as I'm very slow.

Model is from a favourite film of mine "the wind rises" and is a Mitsubishi KA-14 but I'm not a plane expert, any more info appreciated, I believe this is based on the prototype.

I would appreciate and and all input into this build to help me complete easier and to a higher standard, it's my first plane since I was maybe 7!

    Cheers

I'm Hoping with the small amount of parts and the quality of the kit, it just falls together!

Looks good Doug. The K-14 was Mitsubishi's factory designation for the A5M 'Claude'. It was the World's first ship-borne carrier based naval monoplane fighter to enter service and was the predecessor of the famous A6M Zero series. It served extensively in China and the early parts of the Pacific War.

Cheers, reading the instructions is not really an option. Need to figure out the cockpit colours bit there are some bits in English for that. Will see how it goes. Unfortunately it's paint I don't have and can't get till the weekend. I'll get a list together. I think I will do the body in zero paints brilliant white as I have that. I saw it in white and silver online. Will do a bit more research and watch some film clips again! Not sure what colour or shade!

I think brilliant white would be cool - like it's a pre-war display aircraft.

I much prefer the Japanese name to 'Claude'! Although it does describe me in the morning! :P

I agree with Patrick, a prewar colour scheme would look better and would have been the same in the early years of the second Sino-Japanese war and into the early part of the WWII.

Later aircraft and especially late war era had whatever paint they had, cockpit colours tended to not be all uniform.

That would be 'Mitsubishi' Interior Green probably Doug, it's very close to 'dark slate grey' (greenish tinge) as you might use on a Fleet Air Arm scheme.

Primed and gun barrels drilled. Pity it isn't easier to do the cooling holes as well.

Little bit of progress. Have gone for the grey green as advised but think maybe I picked one that was too light? Also Mr colour metallic blue green is a crazy colour and I don't know if I came near that.

Cheers John. Yeah unusual kits are not going to be a staple for me I'm guessing as it's cars I love but it is a good film, worth a watch. The music and sound in it is also amazing. They do a version like a bird which I may let Lucy do at some point if I get one. Also I didn't see that red one until now...
