Hi Alan
I use one of the micro-brushes and dispose of it after. I keep a supply of them, all three sizes.

A quick update. I am working through some Sub assemblies before starting on the wings.

      The tail wheel assembly

      The stabs

Parts ready for painting. I used Montez masks for the canopy rather than the supplied masks.

I am going to get a few more of these done before working on the wings.

I am working on the wing centre section which alone has more parts than many models. Engineering and fit is outstanding.
        Progress so far

There is still a fair bit to do on these before working on the outer wings.

The main undercarraige build under way. It is a model in itself and with the various interconnecting elements it can be an engineering challenge for lesser model companies, Tamiya pull it off in style, perfect fit and sublime engineering. It is a pleasure to work on. The picture below was after an hour of work. It is ready to add to the ready to paint collection of assemblies.

The other to do tonight. Soon I will be moving on to clipping the wings to depict a FAA bird.

                A question

Looking at pictures of FAA Corsairs there seems to be an air scoop on the fuselage below the cockpit. Indeed there is a mark on the fuse where this air scoop appears.

                This is what I mean

Looking at the sprues I found these among the parts not needed for this build.

They look the right size and shape, indeed they position perfectly over the fuselage mark.

So does anyone know if I would be right to glue these into place?

Pity no clipped wing tips are included in the kit though! That is my next task......

Thing is, these don't look quite the same as yours.

Odd that there's no reference to them in the instructions though!

                        Hi John.

Many thanks for that, very interesting. My own research suggests a field modification on many Mk IIs. Hence them not having a uniform appearance, so the squarer shape is not a worry.

Tamiya do often include different parts that are not needed for the versions in the box. I found parts for my Passion Wagon Mustang that were not needed for any of the versions offered in both boxings.

I have decided to include them. They just fit so perfectly in place square to the marks on the fuselage it cannot just be coincidence. I did see pics with these scoops on aircraft based on HMS Victorious though the exact shape was not clear.

I found some time today to clip the wings.

I firmly cemented the tip into place first and the went looking for a plug for where the lights go. Ideally I wanted a clear piece of sprue but could not find any big enough. I therefore had to use a solid piece of plastic and will end up painting the lights. Not so good that but it is the only way I could do it.

I cut out the small protrusions that represent bulbs.

I used some black tape to mark the cuts.

                        Cut done.

You can see the plugs in place. Just got the edges to sand to shape and blend in.

Nearly there. A touch of Mr Surfacer is applied in a couple of places. I will finish off tomorrow or Monday. I am pleased with how that tricky operation went in spite of having to use solid plugs.

Here is the whole model all laid out in sub assemblies ready to work through bit by bit building as I paint.
Just to finish off the wing tips first.

That's going to be some spraying session. More than a few colour changes I suspect.

Colin. I will be working through in batches, pulling the subs together as I go rather than one long session. MRP paints dry so quickly I will be able to weather as well in the same session in which I apply paint. I think overall working this way will speed up the process. It is a bit of an experiment.
