Great work Barry. I used to think crap fitting kits were the norm and thats just how models are. Then i built the Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito. Hundreds of parts that fitted together perfectly. And no filler needed anywhere.

I am getting on with the interior pieces with dry brushing and washes.
The ip individual dial decals bed in well.

Next I use some stuff I managed to source to replicate the dial glass. I have no idea where I got it or how much it costs but is does replicate nice clear lenses and it applies easily with a cocktail stick.

Once applied it is cured with a light pen.

Here are some parts weathered ready to install.

A little more fitting done
I wonder if that will still fit no ow the seat is in place?

Surprise, surprise - it does....

Now what about this. First time joining the fuselage halves together and the first test fit to the wing before the pit was dropped into place.

Thanks to being forewarned and having trimmed a little inside it is not bad at all but there will be some filler and sanding to do underside.
Fuselage halves being cemented together. More sanding of the seams to do, not perfect but not bad.

I can see some issues connecting the wing to the fuse though, with the pit in place. We shall see.Comment

Well once the fuselage was dry I gave in to temptation and before sanding the joins dry fitted it to the wing....the result...

All in all a pretty good fit and rather than push my luck I cemented it into place... Those joins above will very easily be sorted by a smear of Mr Dissolved Putty, a wipe with a sanding stick and a good rub with a cotton bud dipped in ipa.
Just one area will need some serious work...

There is quite a gap there and a fair bit of filling and sanding is needed.
In the same session I treated all the seams with Mr Surfacer 500 and tonight is a sanding session...Comment

She is starting to look like a Yak. But at the moment there seems to be an endless cycle of filling and sanding, filling and sanding.....Comment

Lots more filling and sanding until eventually it was time to attach the poor fitting i.p. cover/gunsight parts to the pit. I was going to have an open canopy but one of the open canopy parts cracked when sanding off the sprue attachment point so I am fitting the closed canopy instead. This is also a very poor fit and I will have some more filling and sanding to do. A fun build this certainly is not...

I am looking forward to finishing this one.Attached FilesComment

I had some real issues with that poor fitting canopy, filling the gaps and getting it smoothed onto the model. I had to re-fit the canopy a few times and in the end had to resort to using cement, not a good idea with canopies. I have some concerns about what it may be like under the masking in case capillery action has drawn cement under the mask and damaged the surface. I did lift a corner or two and did not see any damage but I will only be able to be sure when all the masking is removed.

Anyway.....
I decided to fit the u/c legs before painting. These are tricky as the lack of positive fit make it fairly difficult.

As you can see from the top picture I glued a piece of sprue to the front to act as a hanger while drying. Its a bit of overkill because MRP dries so fast....
Anyway - I applied MRP Black Surface Primer

Overall, not too bad. Some of the areas where I expected to see flaws are fine but those seams are really stubborn. Already I have spent hours of sanding and yet they are still showing through. I will need to apply Mr Dissolved Putty along the seams, sand some more and then see how it is with another primer coat. I really do not know why the seams on this kit are not responding to treatment like others do, every single fuselage seam needs treating along its full length!...Comment
