Revell 1:48 scale P-61 Black Widow

Heres my latest build, I'm kinda doing alongside my Fairey Gannet at the mo....

.....cockpit under construction, listed in the instructions as mainly being "zinc chromate" in colour, and as the instructions don't list the standard revell colours and numbers, just the name, I looked it up on the internet. Its amazing how many differnt zinc chromates there are from vaious yellow to greens!!!! I picked this colour cos I had it available and it matched one of the pics I found of a P-61 interior!!!!

The seams need some filling and sanding next, more progress soon!!!

    Cheers, Andrew

This Aircraft seams to be a bit of a hit at the moment.

I see that the Great Wall version is just a round the corner as well.....Hmm Tempting.

      Looking good so far Andy.

Hi andy , great choice, another good old monogram mould in a revell boxing. I know it will come out looking great, if you check out dave w's thread of his build, it will give you a great idea of anything to watch out for, cheers tony

I really enjoyed building this kit.The only thing i would do differently is to replace the canopies with aftermarket items or pose the clear hatches in the open position.Thats bacause they were a bad fit on my kit and needed plastic card adding to fill in the gaps.Other than that its a great kit.Oh,and you will need quite a bit of weight in the nose.I managed to get 50g in my radome which proved more than enough to keep the nosewheel on the ground.

Thanks guys, I think I remember seeing your build Dave, your build was amazing, I hope I can get mine somewhere close!!!!

I've got some lead to weight the front, I needed some for the fairey gannet, and a roofer mate helped me out with some scrap lead!!!!

            Cheers, Andrew

Hi guys, just a quick update, both booms and tail assembl ect on. The wheels are only dry fitted at the moment to check it all sat on the wheels properly. The radome on the version I'm doing was a pretty poor fit, probably 1-2 mm gap to small to the fuselage, so plenty of filler required!!!

I'm gonna do mine witht the engine cover off, theres some nice engine detail.

              Cheers, Andrew

Great job with the filler ,this kit does have fit issues but you've got it well in hand!

                      A nice build Andy.

I built a 1:72 one of these in my younger days, about thiry five years ago (don't think about it mate).

Can't remember who the manufacturer was but the rivet detail made it look like a black cactus Lol

                      Them was the days.
