I’ve not seen it, but it sounds like the files are in a format the forum doesn’t want. What’s the file extension? Chances are the forum will reject all files that don’t have an extension associated with a filetype it accepts. Thus, if the extension isn’t [ICODE].jpg[/ICODE] or [ICODE].jpeg[/ICODE], try changing it to one of those.

If the extension is that already, try opening the image on your computer and saving it again by using the File → Save As menu (not File → Save) and then uploading the newly saved file. (This might just work because it will likely force the program to create a completely new file with the image in it, while discarding baggage that causes the problem. No guarantee this works, though.)

Jakko, I don't think its the format no one at the moment is able to upload pictures.

        Now, its working....

I have done some base coats:

Wheel wells and parts are white but I find an off white looks best, specially over black basing. You can avoid an unrealistic bright clean white. These areas do get grubby. In the photo they look a bit darker than they actually are.

One thing I dont like about Tamiya is their paint numbering system. Yes, they want to sell their own paints and in doing so expect you to mix colours. The real problem is that they dont give you the right colour names or labels so it takes some base research to find the right colours.

From that we know that Dark Gull Grey is right for US modern cockpits, but what on earth is the colour for the area behind the 'pit? I cannot work it out from the paint mix, so I did an online search for picture and matched the colour to paint samples. When I switched to MRP I sprayed spoons to get colour comparisons and, whle I have not kept up and done so for newer purchases, I was able to find a good match, USN Blue Grey M485 (MRP133) is very close.

Here is the pit, done with those two colours, plus a darker grey for some electronic warfare instruments.

Then there are the exhausts, MRP's Burnt Iron is a rather nice shade for this.

        Next over to the p.e.

I have found, the past, p.e. to be a real problem so I invested in some specialist tools made for it by Tamiya, expensive but well worth it. The special clippers are brilliant, designed to clip cleanly from the fret and get into small places. The file is far better than the normal cheap ones and it take just a swipe to do the job. The bending tweezers are also a good buy for small parts. I have a small bending tool as well that I wont use on this job.

I have also found that Gator glue is best for larger flat parts hile c.a. is best left for small parts.

The problem with pe-painted p.e. is the colour match. The grey is too light but I just have to live with it.

I applied the Gator Glue to the ip with a cocktail stick. Any surplus gets squeezed out can be cleaned off with a damp cotton bud.

The first part presses nicely onto the plastic, a perfect fit and now I leave it for half hour of so to set while I clean off the other parts and do another area.

Cockpit side walls. I am being selective as to what bits of pe I am using. I want only to use those parts that are highly visible and will make a difference.

The side panels, this now needs setting aside to dry before adding more. Note that I have masked and sprayed a section Olive Drab before attachiong the p.e.

I did not bother with the impossibly small levers, from experience given the minute joining surface they wont stay in place long anyway, the few that wont ping off into the ether. I am not into wasting time. That said, the i.p. is not finished yet....

It looks a bit 'flat' at the moment but I will change that with other processes I plan to do.

The lighter p.e. grey colour wont stick out so much when I join the fuselage halves, fortunately, if at all. Specially once I have done what I need to do.

I now want to get on with detail painting and this will take a while before applying varnishes, weathering and other treatments.

I have done the interior detail painting and applied a semi-gloss varnish. Amazing how the varnish just ‘lifts’ the appearance of the painted parts.

A few pics of some key elements

I need to apply some decals, washes, then a semi-matt varnish before a spot of dry brushing. Then I will post some more pics of the interior before assembling these parts.

Love the detail. I am spending more time on my models doing it and really enjoying it. This does look a substantial kit of high quality

That is exactly what you get with the newer Tamiya kits. You should give their 1/32 aircraft a go if you want detail and quality. This one is good, as good as the best from other manufacturers, but Tamiya have moved on and up even from this with their subsequent releases of the 1/32 F16 and all the 1/32 WW2 warbirds.

Probably too big to fit anywhere but I will give one a go in the future. I've done a few Tamiya 1/48 kits now and they are all recent or fairly recent re tools and the quality and design is superb. They think how it goes together very well and nearly always get it spot on. Much less fettling than with other models IMO

I have done some more sub-assembly construction.

Here is the nose underside showing the front wheel assembly in place.

I still have a little work to do in that area before I move on.

Am I seeing this wrongly, the lamp looks like it's facing to the tail of the plane, not the nose?

No it’s facing the right way. The engineering means it can only fix one way.

the leg folds in forward into the fuselage. It is positioned to the rear of the pit.
