I will soon be resuming work on this one. I am determined to get it done before Christmas. I realise now that the reason I stalled on the build of this model is because of the highley detailed resin ejector seats. I look at them and have no clear idea of a painting sequence for getiing them painted. Do I start with the belts then move onto the seat padding or vice versa. You can see from the photos they are highly detailed particularly on the bottom seat cushion area which is littered with a mass of belts. So can I ask anyone who has tackled one of these to please let me know how you would go about painting them I realise that many of you may tackle them differently but I am keen to hear all your methods. Thanks guys. If I can make a good job of these then this baby might get finished.

So progress has been made on the Hawk after it has been sat on the shelf of doom for 4 years+. Firstly it had developed a crack along the seam on the spine. Not sure how this has happened because earlier in the build and recorded on this thread I has concerns about the joins on the two fuzz halves and took what I thought were reasonable reinforcing steps to prevent cracks happening. Anyway in its four years of being stashed away it has cracked so that needed repairing. Following filling and prepping I coated the model in a white primer ready for paint. I intentionally left the white primer patchy in places.
Next was the application of first coat of Revell Gloss Red
I havent done any substantial preshading on this one other than the patchy primer. I just thought they are so pristine that some panel line wash will be all it needs. Time will tell. I have also been working on the two Martin Baker Mk10 resin ejector seats. I am about 50% through and I have to say they have not been the beast that I thought they would be. Still got a lot of shading and dry brushing to do together with picking out the finer detail on the sides but all in all I am pretty pleased with how they are coming along.
Thanks for tuning in.Last edited by HAWKERHUNTER; 14 November 2024, 15:40.Steve👍 6Comment

So I have applied four coats of Revell 31 Red Gloss enamel. No dramas, all went well. Now onto the decals. Once these are applied I will need to seal them in with varnish before masking and painting the blue onto the tail.
Other than that I am getting there slowly.
Dont worry about the decals looking wrinkly. I have just applied the Micro Set and Sol before taking the pictures. I need to wait for these to dry before tackling the other side. Thanks for looking.Steve👍 8🥰 2Comment

Looking very good Steve. Seats look great. Nice red finish. I imagine these aircraft would have been kept pretty pristine so minimal wear and tear.👍 1Comment

A little bit of progress. After giving the decals on the tail a bit of gloss varnish to help protect them I masked off the tail for the Royal Blue paint, I also had a small repair to do on the nose so that was also masked off.
All went fairly well but despite my preparation I have caused a little damage to one of the decals which will need a touch up with paint later on.
One step forward and two steps back. The joy of modeling.Steve👍 4🥰 2Comment

Well I have a small break before the start of the next GB so I have done some work on the BAE Hawk. The nose has been repainted and the white fuzz decal repaired. Today I have fitted the two ejector seats and the undercarriage. I am determined to bring this one to a conclusion within the next few days.
Thanks for looking. Sorry its taken so long but for some unknown reason I have really struggled with my mojo over this model.Steve👍 4🥰 1Comment

Well it's been a long time on the go but nearly there now. Certainly looking good. Lovely shiny red coat. This cracking model definitely needs to get over the finish line.👍 1Comment

I have no excuse Jim. I cant put my finger on why I kept falling in and out of love for this one. I know I stalled on the prospect of painting the resin elector seats, never done those before. They looked complicated but actually turned out to be relatively easy job. Next I was not looking forward to working with the gloss paint but again it turned out OK. Personally I am glad this one is nearly done but it will go down as my longest build to completion.😂 1
