Yaks ‘Century Series’ in 1/48 part 3 - Convair F-102A Delta Dagger

Here we are , four years after starting this series project and I’m only on the third build of six ! This is the Revell issue of the Monogram F-102 . I originally had the Monogram kit for this but after a bit of research found out it had the wrong decals for the aircraft modelled ( to do with Case X and Case XX wing shapes , bit too involved to go into here) Anyway I found out this Revell reboxing features a revised wing tooling and had the correct decals for the wing shape featured ,so got it and moved the Monogram kit on via eBay . ( the old Monogram decals would probably have given me grief anyway , see the F 101 )
Anyways here’s the box top and sprues , it’s monogram at their finest - lovely detail but not too complicated . The kit has the option of having the Falcon rockets with all their associated trapezes hanging out of the weapons bay but I prefer a cleaner look so it’ll be closed up. I’ve also got an Eduard Zoom fret for the cockpit , mainly for the seat belts as the moulded on ones are a bit faint but I might use the IP and other bits as well. Click image for larger version

    Hi Tony
I look forward to this. Fine looking aircraft. Sounds like a nice kit. Brings back memories as a few years ago a modeller friend sadly passed away and kits from his stash were given to some of his modelling colleagues to build in his memory. I got the Meng 1/72 Delta Dagger flown by George W Bush during his time with the Texas Air National Guard.

Got the seat together and the main colour on . Ive also ground off the moulded on belts ready fir the pe. Ive got some colour on the cockpit tub too and been looking at the instrument panel. The kit panel is very finely detailed and with a lot of patience and a good magnifier it could look great but seen as ive got the pe anyway im going to save my time and eyesight and just use these.Click image for larger version

The cockpit tub Has also had some paint and the pe side panels and instrument panel have been fitted and the seat put in , the whole thing having a Dark dirt wash to give it a bit more depth .The pit is now complete and ready to go in the fuselage . Got the fuselage halves together , nose cone on and the huge wing fitted .The intakes and splitter plates have been fitted to the fuselage and filled and sanded. Its all setting now with plenty of tape to hold the joints together. Its a surprisingly large model in 1/48 as can be seen by the 1/ 72 Spitfire next to it . As I decided to have the missile bays closed the next step is to fit the closed doors section under the belly . Click image for larger version

Looking good Tony, loving your Century Series builds. I like the F-102 and later F-106 shapes. I have a 1/72 Meng F-102 kit so will watch your build of its larger scale cousin with interest.

Cheers joe , i know its been a long time since the voodoo ! Its a fantastic looking aircraft and in this scale quite large . The old monogram tooling is still a great bit of moulding , lots of nice detail although the fit does need a bit of fettling here and there . The open missile bays are excellently detailed , bit of a shame I’m leaving them shut ! Cheers tony

Been so busy with work and other stuff lately so havent been in the shed for a long while , hence the long interval between posts on this one. Anyway yesterday i got the pre shading on and today gave it a light coat of ADC grey ( Air Defence Command) .As on the f101 Voodoo , I used vallejo model air 71/046 which is a good match for the adc grey . Very cool. The "6" Dart was vastly superior in every way I'm told, but still had no gun. PaulE
