Well, I've stuck nearly everything on - the airbrake and front u/c doors will go on later, for the usual reason (I forgot them). The undercarriage will be added later so save me trying to mask it.
The underside has had a coat of light grey:

It was a little tricky to mask those weapon pylons, but the top has now had a dose of Dark Sea Grey. Mr Color Aqueous thinned with Levelling Thinner, goes on beautifully and dries hard and smooth.

BUT... can you see the mistake?

I should have painted the black radome first as it would have been easier to mask that and spray the DSG rather that have to mask a tapering curved surface. Oh well...

Looking sharp pete , that radome is going to be a tricky mask up for sure . Maybe a thin ,large radius ,curved piece of tape ? Try the compass cutter on the largest radius it will do and cut a piece out of a wide piece of tape .

        Hi Peter
Coming along well now despite the issues. You certainly have to come up with a lot of solutions on old kits like this. Maybe that's their charm - a real sense of satisfaction when you end up with a nice model.

Thanks Tony. That probe is going to get in the way of masking. I'm going to try a strip of 1mm tape butted up against the base of the probe, then wider tape against that. The circle cutter is a good idea, might try that too.

Thanks Jim, the kit isn't much of a problem, more that I didn't think things through properly. It would be nice to have better locating points for some things though. The two aerials just behind the canopy for example - nothing to mark where they go, and the sprue gate is on the end that has to be glued to the fuselage (they're slightly tapered). It was a struggle to get them in an acceptable place and both at the same angle.

Pleased the masking worked, but I broke off the probe on the nose when removing the masking. I need to get the decals on before the underwing stores, there are several decals to go on the pylons. Might as well leave the nosewheel and air brake until after the decals too.
The radome masking didn't work - had some creepage. Tried to tidy it up with a brush, but couldn't get a clean line, so I masked it the way I should have done in the first place (black first) and sprayed the DSG. It's not perfect but not too bad.
            Comments welcome.

Decals are on, also the undercarriage:

The double wheels towards the rear of the fuselage so she sits nicely on all 5 wheels.
A little more detail painting to do in daylight tomorrow, then I'll matt coat it before adding the fuel tanks and Sidewinders.

                    Coming on very nicely indeed.

                    Well done.

I wrote " The double wheels towards the rear of the fuselage so she sits nicely on all 5 wheels ", which doesn't make sense - I meant to say that the double wheels have a little movement. Thanks for that ESCI!

                        Hi Peter
Really looking the part now. Decals always seem to bring planes to life.
