This will indeed be an epic build Peter.

There is no going back now - one wing had been chopped in two using my trusty band saw.
it's still a big lump of plastic, even with 8" chopped off the end; I'm not sure how much to use, I have 3 options:
1 - all of the section. But that may over power the figures, or
2 - full width of the wing, but with only one engine, or
3 - partial width of the wing with two engines, or
4 - partial width of the wing, with one engine.
i think I will build two engines, dry fit everything and see how it looks with the figures in place, then decide. One factor will be how stable the wing will be sitting on the one wheel - quite a bit of plastic cantilevered out.

Great idea for your displayable Fortress, love it and good to have your options open before committing to one size of the wing:smiling:Comment

Hi guys
its time to start by making a decision.
tempted as I am to start with the fuselage - the fun bit - I am going to start with my 'outside' vignette of the crew walking under the wing, so time to decide on the layout. To do this i have started to build the engines and dry-fitted them in place and taken a few photos of the options.
this is where your thoughts would be welcome.
These first 4 photos show the three figures with the section of wing with both engines, there is a lot of wing compared to the three figures:
the next photo has been edited to remove the second engine:
This final photo is edited to remove the rear part of the wing, but retain both engines;
the big question is: which of these options?

I like the first option ,Peter.
these were BIG planes-I think that ones shows it well -especially with the tight formation of the figuresComment

I agree with Neil. If you go too tight it becomes abstract, not linking the crew to the plane but just framing them.Comment

Hi Guys
Thanks for all of the feedback. I have made a decision ...
... which is: not to make a decision (yet) - I'm going to paint the three figures first and then worry about the wing. The main thing at the moment is that the general concept and vignette works.
not it's time to break out the paintbrushes ...
