Oops...I got that in reverse. Yup...that's the old kit alright. Now I remember some people saying that Tamiya either ran out of patience or there were two separate design teams working on the moldings that had this half and half thingy... pretty weird. I've not seen the newer moldings but haven't heard any complaints about the panel lines.
Cheers,
Richard
The two halves of the cockpit don't seem a great fit but I think that's my building of the Aires set. Having not used a resin cockpit before I'm not sure if I'm supposed to alter it to make it fit, likely what I will end up doing.Comment

The Aires cockpit set seems very good to me. There's a few tiny bits of PE that I haven't used as I don't see worth it. The only thing I am going to do further is create the HUD.
I haven't really looked at the kit as I have spent all my time so far in the cockpit but will have a dig. I will need after market decals as it's so old the original ones ain't great no more! Haven't got any yet though, will wait till I'm further along. It's going to be a grey one anyway.Comment

I got 8t from eBay, screen shot attached but think I paid under £30 for it. The pics on eBay aren't great, do you want some more close up pics?Comment

Hi James
Just caught up with this. Many older kits build up well with a little effort and they usually represent good value for money. The cockpit looks great. That Aires kit seems superb. Often aftermarket stuff does need a bit of fettling even when specific for the base kit.
Looking forward to the rest of the build of this great looking aircraft.

So I did a dry fit of the cockpit section today which I'm glad I did as it didn't fit well.
Had to detach back section behind RIO's seat and file away about 2mm of the main tub to get it to sit flush.
Looking at the cockpit surround tolhe Aires one isn't as good a fit as the Tamiya. Suspect I'm going to amalgamate the two to get detail and fit.
Anyway photos attached of dry fit work.
