    Tamiya 1:32 F-14

So shed is pretty much complete so now making the most of it.

Had this a while and have actually started it but thought I'd do a new thread.
The kit is very old, how old I don't know but looking at it I assume pre 2000. Decals are a bit on the yellowed side so will probably replace these and maybe go for a different scheme to the box but apart from that the kit seems all good.

Aires cockpit set will be used as well. This seems a really excellent addition. I have never used one of these but am very impressed from the level of detail.

    Unboxing photos below.

Do you mean the first release of this kit, or when you bought it? I can’t help with the latter, but the kit originally came out in 1980.

A great looking aircraft James, and you've got lots of plastic to play with, nice.

So cockpit rear (Goose's seat) almost done, though the PE is hard going, just so fiddly as there are about 16 parts to the belts for each seat, at least with this kit it should be visible though so worth the extra effort.

Anyway once this is done I am looking forward to being able to progress at a higher rate of knots!

So after a long break and a lot of trains being done did a bit more on the cockpit yesterday.
Still have to glue in pilot's seat, stripe ejection seat handles in front and do pilot seat straps but pretty much done apart from that.

Certainly think this Aires set makes a nice.cockpiy and a bit of detail which will be seen.
Dry fit is doesn't seem to want to fit very well in the nose section of the fuselage.

Hi James, I just dropped in and did some catching up. The office looks nice with the Aires set. To know if the kit is old and if I'm not mistaken the front half of the kit is raised panel lines and the back half engraved.

                      Cheers,
                      Richard

To thanks for all the compliments!

Front panels have come out better as I painted white behind before gluing on films with dials on them where as I didn't in the back.

The front has recessed panel lines and back has proud ones, I'm not sure what that equates to age wise?

Oops...I got that in reverse. Yup...that's the old kit alright. Now I remember some people saying that Tamiya either ran out of patience or there were two separate design teams working on the moldings that had this half and half thingy... pretty weird. I've not seen the newer moldings but haven't heard any complaints about the panel lines.

                            Cheers,
                            Richard
