    Vought F4U-1A Corsair

Here's an itch I've needed to scratch for a while. I picked it up very cheaply off the auction site and added a couple of AM bits to the box. It's another aircraft I like the look of so snapped it up when it was for sale. I'm starting to enjoy the larger scales and still have a 1/32 Heinkel He111 sat in the stash and an F4 Phantom, the only problem at the moment is display space. Anyway here's the sprue shots and it will be landing on the desk in the next few weeks.

Always liked this plane, so this looks to be interesting

I see these fairly cheap in Hobbycraft a lot, even more when they do their Black Friday deals but I keep putting off buying one. I’ll watch how you get on and then decide.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

Made a start on this one and there’s not really much to it. I’m putting some extras into the cockpit which is quite basic. The two pieces sticking up on the front in the pic will be removed as there’s some etch bits to go there. The pilot is a very strange looking fellow but I’m not replacing him. He is currently blocked in and has a wash on. I have also been building some sub assemblies while I wait for paint from John. The wings are designed to hinge so they have been partially built and are also now waiting for paint. I have also found some rod to put in the gun ports I can drill out, they look a bit strange without anything in.

Nice one Mick. A corsair in this scale will look the part. You mentioned the He111, I built that some years ago, it's huge. Definitely worth getting a mask kit for that.

I'd like to see this knocked into shape Mick...warming my chair.

              Cheers,

Good start on this one Mick. It will be quite an imposing beast when done, just like the real thing.

More progress made on my big aircraft I’m beginning to wish I’d just fixed the wings down so tape will do for now. Some more sanding and tidying up to do, prop is only temp on for the pic. All that’s left to do now is painting, undercarriage assembly and finish off the cockpit and pilot.

A quick update now paints on and showing the need for some touching up. I fitted a new seat back so I could fit some seat belts. Clear coat now on.Click image for larger version
