    Youngerthanme,
Love the whole build, all the way through we have seen you reach a point and then work through it. The prop being the latest example - well done!

Thank you Sir! It amazed me after I shot the coat on her too!!! Luckily Andy, I didn't get any splinters handling it either...

Well Doug, I really can't imagine why you have a prop in the loft.......Shouldn't you be bending etch and working on that Chally, instead of playing with your propeller???...Just wondering...

So true Mick and thanks! It will have to be a small base as I have a small flat. Hope to have it finished before month's end. I see you have gone all 'Spacey' on us my friend!!! I gotta ketchup with it and "May The Force Keep You Awake At The Bench"...

Thanks Tony! And thanks to your post (and Mark and Tim), it worked most excellently. I have also seen that folks mix the clear orange and clear yellow to spray too. The fuel cart was another wild hair in the butt idea and not as hard as I thought...

Most appreciated Dude 2! I think you know me pretty well and that I can't leave well enough alone without some scratchy to keep me awake interested at the table...PM in the morn...

Dang Olderthanme, thank you and it has been a long journey! I figure the whole build, with the ups and downs, has left me with about 47 active brain cells in the wind mills of my mind. After painting the figs, that will leave me around 7 cells to plant the grass on the base for the finish. It has been fun though!!! Hope you are feeling better after the furniture moving escapades Mike...

No real update tonight (forgot to take pics, as usual). I have been playing in wine bottle foil and reading my new reference book. I have also played with my new purchases, done some measurements, studied some pics and done a few mathematical equations. I can only say that my math sucks and even barefoot, I still can't get past 20.....................

Thanks one and all, again, for the great support and comments. So much appreciated!!! More to follow........

      Prost

          Evening everyone in plastic land,

Thanks so much Lee! I do think it is finally all coming together barring anymore hiccups. It's great to see you keeping me on my toes, my friend!!!...

So, it has been a while since I posted an update, so today is your lucky day people...I have not been sitting on my butt and this post will be pretty long with lots of pics (to bore you) too.......
I finally got the arms CA'd on the figs in the right positions and removed the limp stick grenade from the loader. I still have to fill the joints with putty, do the cleanup on them, breath deep, break out the wet palette and do the paint nasty thang,

While building up the courage to do all this with the figs and then the hairy stick work, I drove on with the Esso gas station. Looking at what I had for the resin wheels, I thought they were a bit thin and needed to be fattened up a bit. Broke out the Olga from the Volga Olfa cutter and made some rings from 0.20mm sheet plastic,

I also made the cart handle too (more on that later on). The rings were very close to fitting, but the inside diameter needed to be made larger. Sanding and/or trimming with a knife wasn't the answer, so I broke out a very important tool in the modeling arsenal to do it,

It worked and I still have all the skin on my fingers. Hit the wheels with some CA and set them aside. I had made 2mm strips of wine foil for the support bands and CA'd them on the bottom half of the barrel,

Next up was making the axles for the wheels to mount on the barrel frame. I carefully shaved off the bolts on the wheels and put them aside. They will be needed later on in the build. I then started with various tubing and with a whole lot of slicing and dicing, came up with this mess,

Ok, now they look like 1917 wagon wheels! I sanded, scraped and trimmed the outside diameter of the plastic rings to get an even surface between the resin and plastic. I cut 2 strips of 0.10mm sheet @ 2.3mm wide to represent the metal ring around the rim,

It was time to add the frame to the barrel being very careful to make sure it sat straight. I also had a brain fart to use a piece of brass tubing for strength in the axles. It is the same as the inside diameter of the plastic tubing. I gently drilled through the barrel with a 1.4mm drill bit and in the end, we had this,

After this, it was gluing the strip around the face of the wheels. I had a choice of using CA or TET for the job. I decided to use CA, knowing I had to work quickly before it set and it would hold better on both resin and plastic. After it dried, I did a test fit with the wheels and the handle,

Yea, the joints on the frame corners need some work and a dab of putty...No biggie. That damn handle kept bugging me to no end...It was way too thick and looked terrible. What to do??? Just make a new one,

Don't worry, the bends are flexible and it will fit ok. It was finally time to add the top straps to the barrel and the strap holders on the frame. I made some caps for the holders. On these, I will add 4 of the shaved small bolts later, one on each cap,

4 used on the cart handle and the larger 2 were CA'd on the rod pieces to slide into the axle ends. The other pieces are for the kick-stand to support the cart. I let the whole nonsense dry for a while and in the end..........Before you all start snoring loudly!!!...Progress,

The kick-stand legs are flexible and move outwards to their correct positions on the foot (to be made). It looks like they are too long and may have to be trimmed up a bit, as the cart has to sit forwards and not backwards.

Still have to drill 4 holes in the framing for the support wires for the pump and build the pump assembly itself. I'm lovin' it and I haven't gone blind yet! Have a great night and thanks for looking in......Oh, and the GGFGS* has been working better than expected. About 75% at the time and I'm happy with it......

                Greetings from the Aerodrome,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner as a bit of life and play have gotten in the way of progress. Also trying to ketchup with all the fines things going on here as well. I'm still way behind though....

Thank you Nick!!! It's fun stuff to work with, but very delicate. Care is needed when working with it and getting CA to stick to it too...

Thanks for the kind words Jim!!! I just try to do my best and jump each hurdle as it comes. Yea, sometimes I land on my face, but I get up and start again. It makes this hobby so much fun...

A little update on the cart will follow. I want to say I got off the track here as it has nothing to do with the Halberstadt build itself. It was a hair up the butt sort of thing. The Halberstadt itself is finished and the dio is going to go on hold for now. I want to paint the figs along with other figs that I need. I really don't want to fire up the wet palette for just 2 figs, when I have 5 or more to do. I have until July to finish this and maybe get a good start on another project that's on my drawing board. I would like to take the Halberstadt to a show in the middle of July...

I finally worked out the details for the pump unit and went about doing the scratchy. I found the resin parts from Blast Models weren't going to work for the plumbing, so I made my own out of other tidbits,

The top and bottom pipes aren't glued yet. The two flat pieces with the holes are the supports for the rod with the hook to hang the hose on. The tan piece will be the wooden pump handle and the plug looking thang goes on the barrel top and is where the pump unit will sit. After a lot of fiddling around and careful applications of TET, we had this,

I can live with it. There is still a few things to add, finish assembling the wheels, measuring out some hose and then shoot a coat of paint on it. With having only a couple of pics to go by, patience and the GGFGS, it should be good enough and look the part too. It will (hopefully) be used in another wing thingy build later...

Finally, as you may have noticed by my recent purchases, I have become fascinated with floaty things (calm down Chris) that were stationed at Zeebrugge in Belgium, from 1915-18 and have wings on them. I still have my love for 1/35 armor and play with those too. My scratchy mojo has been really high in retirement and I want to take advantage of it while I can and/or before I get too old and shaky to do it....

I want to take the Halberstadt outside, if the wind would die down a bit, to take some decent pics and post them in the completed section this weekend. Then maybe start playing with my next (semi) scratchy project,
