    Revell 1/32 Harrier GR1 - As a GR3

So this kit I have been asked to build for someone as a GR3 to display.
To say the least out of the box it doesn't look great and is far more basic than I'd like but hey ho.
Nose will need scratch building and I will likely use after market kits for wheel wells etc from the GR7 just to add detail.
Also decals will need to be sprayed as it's a different squadron I have to do that isn't produced.

ID:	1218777So the engine I would like exposed or with the cover removable but as you can see detail is somewhat lacking on this kit.

Yes that is the completed engine.
Anyhow a bit of glue, lead wire and copped wire along with a mid section cut from plasticard and it's looking better.

I used some actual photos of the engines so it's not 100% but has added detail and for an hour I was quite pleased.

By differences do you mean actually or what I can be bothered to do?

The nose it the main one which I will scratch build from a drop tank. The intakes were also a little different but I'm not that worried about that bit. Last main but was the tail fob is slightly higher which I will do with plasticard.

A lot of them depend on how much motivation I find myself with at the time.

One of the few 'fast jets' I actually like. Watching avidly from the wings. (oooooh that was bad!!!)

Some engine detail added for when engine cowling is open. Still needs to be weathered and some other details added.Click image for larger version

Fifty years? Are they talking the Harrier or this kit? Both, probably.

Still, there can't be many kits of the GR.1 of this sort of vintage left that haven't been re-worked into GR.3s or AV-8s, other than this and the Airfix 1/24

Nostalgia is not always what it's cracked up to be, but that's a stirling start so far

I have the same kit in my stash (got it for 20€ in a second hand/charity shop).
                Nice start.
I'll follow your build with interest.

I do admire the detailing, really brings it to life

I wish I had room for this scale, they make such an impressive display, unfortunately the cast iron agreement with missus Miko limits the space I have available for showing off my creations!

The date stamp on the moulding is (c)1982 and the quality or lack there of certainly supports this!

I wish there was a good GR1 or 3 kit I could have done as this was my last choice but unfortunately only choice.

Charity shops that have model kits? Maybe I should take an Italian vacation someday

So it's looks ok I think, certainly made a difference. The issue becomes where do you stop?

I have just decided to cut out the intakes and will build separate flaps to go in behind the cut outs out of plasticard. I think it adds a bit to the kit which is what I'm aiming for.

Looking forward to the Av-8 detail seats arriving and cannibalising them into this mongrel GR3.
Kind of at a standstill until the resin cockpit comes now though.
