    Rick’s Airfix 1/48 Ju-87R2 Stuka - a rite of passage build

Now that the Do-17 is all but finished my eldest daughter chose this as my next build. There are a number of kits or subjects that I have as a “rite of passage” build. Something that I always wanted to do but never had the pocket money, skills or time. Or maybe something that my dad built with me or for me. Obvious subjects are the Spitfire, Me-109 etc. Or particular kits like the 1/350 scale Tamiya ships. The Stuka is also one of those subjects to build, not this specific kit or the scale or variant, just the subject.

Option A will be the version I’ll build, maybe with some etched seatbelts and using paintmasks - all that glazing is tedious.

    The sprue shots etc.

Made a lot of progress on this too. The seatbelts are from Eduard.

That's looking really good. At least you'll be able to see all the work you've done given the size of the canopy!

        Well done.

Always admire what you wingy chaps do with the cockpit even when some times most of it won't be seen ,but still can't belive that some manufacturers don't include seat belts no matter what scale to me their the detail that finalises the cockpit, you've had to source them from somewhere else at a cost I know after market details are big business but I do feel that omitting seat belt is like selling me a tank or armoured car kit with no tracks or wheels. Sorry for the small detore excellent stuff so far will keep a eye out for the next progress report. Dave

All painted and masking removed. I hate MIG Ammo paint, it’s so fragile and peels off with masking. Some touch up before the next step.

Lovely build Rick, sadly I've only come in this late and have to squint at the earlier images of the progress shots.
Always wanted to do a Stuka, have both the Airfix 48 and 24 scaled kits in the stash with the obvious unusable old decals.
Nice classic splinter scheme and the early canopy that you've done there. Are you able to close the panels over the exposed engine?
Seen pictures of the crew next to it on the ground and it's quite a huge aircraft. No doubt under powered with the single prop engine.

                          Cheers,
                          Wabble
