    Airfix 1:48 Bristol Bulldog Mk.II

Airfix announced the release of this kit a while back.
The moment I saw it, the kit was a ‘want’ immediately. That’s a rare thing for me.
What caught my eye ? Well it’s a bi-plane, I like bi-planes, but look at the engine, so prominent, I do like a nice engine.
There are two great GB’s going on at the moment, both of which I could easily settle into, but then post lady Julie delivered this !
I don’t tend to build much in the summer, but as it’s so cold, the garden has slowed right down, so I might just have a chance of getting this one done.

I won’t bother you with all the sprues, but the fuselage gives a good idea of the standard of detail.

    Not too shabby.
Some garden duties this morning, then hopefully, I’ll make a start.

That looks to be a very decent kit, with good instructions too.
Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

What’s to like with a radial engine involved.

I saw this in the Airfix Model World magazine and thought - "Looks good". It will be interesting to follow your build. These new Airfix kits are usually pretty good.

Well, when this was announced I kind of ummed and ahhed because all my Silver wings are 1/72. But, looking at the plans and parts I might just get one as reference to do the old Airfix kit.
Or I could just follow here
I want to do the 'plane Bader cracked up in, but there are so many pretty schemes. There was one that transferred between 3 sqn and 17 so it temporarily carried both stripe and diagonals. Curious Airfix are showing the wheel hubs in green, matching 3's stripes, as the hubs would normally be in flight colour, red 'A', yellow 'B' or blue 'C'

You may still find Flight Journal magazine on the shelves, which featured the eeplica flying in the States. Warpaint No.66 is a great reference too

Airfix do give that a mention in the instructions.

That's an interesting detail. I've sen Aifix instructions in the past, mention if there's a possible discrepancy in the colour of something, then let you make your own mind up, which colour you are going to use.

                          I’ve done a bit.
The cockpit is all done. It’s interesting how the wicker seats of WW1 have gone and we now have a quite modern height adjustable seat, with a harness, not just a lap belt. Progress indeed.

The fuselage fully encased the ‘pit so not much at all can be seen.
You can see a bit of filler on the seam. Unfortunately, the fit wasn’t great, but to make matters worse, the seam is in a slight dip which made sanding a bit difficult.

Tonight’s entertainment will be making rigging eyes, and a haunted UK podcast to help pass the time. These eyes will be cut down before use and inserted to the many rigging points around the aircraft.
