Sorry to hear your woes guys. Depression is a horrible thing. It seems to suppress all the good emotions and just leave you with the negatives like anger and guilt.

I’ve just come out of a bout of this myself, so empathise strongly with both sides of the issues. A key thing to remember is that there usually is no main cause. It’s just a lot of small set backs that can add up and tip you into this state of mind.

The way to improve your mental state, at least, for me, is to mentally plan your day and celebrate the achievement of small things. This way you can set yourself up with a lot of little victories and can perhaps generate some positivity. However, don’t beat yourself up if you can’t get through the list. Sometimes getting out of bed, having a wash and brushing your teeth is as good as it gets. These are still achievements when you are suffering from depression and should be celebrated as such.

Talking is definitely a good thing as well, but only to someone that is empathetic to your situation. The worst thing is to be told to “snap out of it” or to continually be asked “how you are” or “do you feel a bit better”. These questions just drive you mad. Better to ask a question about a subject the sufferer knows about, or to try to talk about happier times or current events. My uncle, who also suffers sometimes, calls it talking bollocks, ie, chatting about absolutely anything with no importance whatever. It breaks the circle of introspection and puts your mind in neutral. There are times when the sufferer just want to be left alone, and any human interaction can be maddening. In this case, let them have space. They will come back to you when they are ready.

Just be aware there is no quick fix and no real cure. It can bite back really quickly with no real reason or warning, but can also go dormant just as fast. Antidepressants don’t really help much in my experience. They just put your emotions in neutral until you feel nothing at all. They are very helpful if you are suffering seriously negative thoughts, but for a bout of mild depression they just turn you into a sort of zombie. Human contact and activity on the sufferers terms will improve the situation, but needs patience and understanding from their loved ones.

If either of you guys want to discuss this, or just rant, please feel free to PM me. I’ve experienced this issue from both sides and know the importance of a support team in improving the situation.

Thank you kindly Tim.Sometimes i like to walk in nature to sit alone and listen to the sea.I live on Essex coast and only 50 metres from the North sea.Just walking on the beach is nice.I just wish i could summons the zest to do some models.I look in my cupboard at kits or read but just cant seem to get enthusiasm for them.I think i buy kits as a kind of retail therapy hence big stash.Appreciate your kind thoughts

The pain is probably triggering her depression. Hope she feels better soon.

HI Guys well still doin them light on the hornet as there are more on this than the tomcat an the way the kit is made is proveing very difficult to jion all the wires up an solder the mini eletric plugs as ive found i cant do one bit til ive done another an then off it goes again as i cant do them wires till the sideds of the fusalage are fittedan then i cant fit them till ive fitted in the engine on the power side but i will get it done just takin loads of time an first pic is of the lower fusealarge where all the lights wires will have to meet up to be soldered to the plugs but now i think im on the right track Click image for larger version

Despite all the difficulties you're making steady progress. Brilliant work sorting out all those little lights and wires. As you say you are definitely on the right track.

HI Jim yes this hornet kit is far worst than the tomcat as the instruckions are rubbish as they dont show an after fit on how the sides of the fusalarge fit together its all just been dry fitting an it all slippin out of my hand an swear box is full an jen is gettin better but she was asleep onthe setee so dint want to dissdurbe her so had to wish for a extra hand as yes it treid mu helping hands but the part is to big an heavy an kept tippin over but managed it in the end but now got to do the other side tomorrow so got to hope no shakes
cheers Jim hope you are well an the missues

AN HI Steven yes this kit has near sent me round the bend as the instructions are not great as they dont show an afterfit of how the air intake is suppoce to fit an ive treid it ten different ways an it just did not look right but in the end i gluded it an hope for the best an i was right thank goodness i just wish these kit manufactours would make the instruckions a lot clearer but as i said to Jim im now on the right track but by gum i was gettin fed up with doin try fits an the parts kept slippin out of my hands oh boy just as well im slow to anger an pretty placid an yes be glad
when jen is better for that third hand lol
