Finally finished the surgery in way of the fuselage area for the cockpit tub including removal of the original internal embossed details needed for the original kit tub. After much carving teasing and threatening finally got the tub to fit. Created a new floor under the front seat with Plasticard and CA glued the joystick consul to same. Now have to fill in all the gaps and clean-up. Cheers Derek

Finally got some work done on the Phantom. The main assembly is now finished, a minor gap at the nose to be fixed them masking and painting. The wheels, exhaust and intake ducting has been left off for painting separately. Cheers Derek

Hi All, Have all of the Decals on the Airframe on, waiting for the Micro Sol to dry overnight before applying some light weathering. Still have the weapons pylons to finish, also the Undercarriage, Fuel Tank, Engine Exhaust and a lot of work on the Cockpit.

Sorry Derek but I have missed the latest updates to this build, curses to whoever suggested a group build :busted_red: Anyway.... The resin cockpit does look good and it will add some much needed weight in the nose I would have though. It is looking very nice. How are you doing, if you are, the world record text on the port intake?

That's looking really good Derek. Excellent paintwork as ever! Has the overall build been as traumatic as some that I've read about with wings & tailplanes not fitting as they should?

I've a soft spot for the Phantom but all that possible extra work has put me off so far.

Graham, Thanks for your interest, don't plan to have the world record text as the font needed would be extremely small. Much of the Aires cockpit was cut away, so the weight wouldn't be that significant. However this is the first 'modern Jet' that I have made that was not a tail sitter, primarily because of the pitch of the undercarrage.

Patrick, Apart from the Aires cockpit fit, the rest of the Kit was a fairly good fit, the only filler area was about 10mm on the underside of the port air intake, and a very small area at the nose. I used Plastic Weld for all the plastic joints, this allows you to work your way around the model an inch or two at a time in order to get the best fit. The decals are a little on the thick side, so needs some Micro Sol to bed in, other than that, I would not put anyone off buying this kit. It comes with about 6 Aircraft Decals so I was able to chop them up to get my XT858. Will list the paints I used on the final posting. Thanks for your interest.

Jim, Thanks for your kind comments, you have highlighted my big mistake. If anyone plans to do this model, I would suggest temporarily fitting the undercarrage doors closed with say blue tack, painting and fitting the Decals, and use a knife with a new blade to slit the decals, then open the doors and carry on as normal. It was fun!!! trying to visualise and cut the Decals in the correct position.
