1/72 Scale........... AERO MB20 Bomber.......Korpro kit

Hi All........

I've posted a bit about this kit in the introductions. Now I've found this thread I figured maybe I'd put something on here...........I've come back to this hobby after a lot of years........First off was a 144 scale Harrier GR8.

Anyway............. The Korpro kit of the MB200 is a proper challenge. Nothing seems to fit quite how it should, and I seem to have spent half my life trimming, filling and prepping........Even the overall diameter of the engine cylinders was nearly 3mm bigger than the internal diameter of the cowlings that goes over them..........and they weren't even moulded concentric..........

As this aircraft was comandeered by the Luftwaffe from the Czech's and put into a training role .......I figured maybe it had a hard life...........So I've gone for a weathered and worn look............. I still use brushes.......so it isn't perfect, but ????

Interesting subject Peter, look forward to seeing it come together. Nothing like setting yourself a challenge is there lol. Just take your time and if we can help, just shout up.

I like the weathering on the wings, looks awesome, especially the green side. Might have to hastle you to send me some tips on how to achieve that look.

The weathering on the wings and (now the fuselage) was quite easy........... I started with a khaki base coat.............. Olive green over that............. Let it dry and harden off fo a few days.......... Then gave it a few sweeps forward to aft with a green pan scourer.

Then I mixed 4 parts olive green with 2 parts white............... chopped down a paintbrush to give short stiff bristles then dry brushed forward to aft with streeks...........

The underside was done the same using light blue (XF23) and white........... and the oily crap around the engine mounts was dry brushed using Tamaiya Dark Yellow (XF60) mixed with a dab of Light Blue (XF23) to make a greenish yellow oily clour..........

The wings are on.........And now I'm masking up the turret tops and canopy ................. and that is tedious.......... and when I've made a total b*llix of them............. I'll post a few piccies..........

That's a beautifully painted and weathered aircraft and just goes to show what effects can be achieved with brush work alone.

Great work! Looking forward to the finished bomber/trainer.

A bit more progress..................... and we aren't far off done.............

Undercarriage is on and the wheels are near finished .......... Gun turrets are done.............canopy is on as are the tail is done.............

All that's left is a bit of detailing.............decals ............ and for my 3 year old grandson to get hold of it and "wreck it"..........:smile5:

Hi All................ A question................

Bearing in mind this Aeroplane was built mid 1930s.......... and a French design........... built in Czechoslovakia............... Would the wheels have been pressed Steel or aluminium ?????

The reason I am wondering is...............corrosion ????........... Would they rust of or just oxydise where the paint flakes..........?????

Hi peter ,good to hear its nearlt done,looking forward to the end result. As for the wheels ,from what ive seen the wheel disc is just a cover so i imagine it wouldnt have been steel , maybe aluminium or even plywood or fabric so i would keep the chipping to a bare minimum, cheers tony

I think it's very interesting to see what you can do with basic traditional methods, which remind me of what I used to do as a youngster. Your weathering is an excellent example and the green surface demonstrates a really good understanding of what creates the weathering in real life.

One thing to remember, the transfers will have to be weathered in a similar way otherwise they will stand out bright and odd looking. Save some of the weathering for the very end to blend the transfers in.

I've already got the "Angle Grinder" ready to beat the hell out of the decals...............

...............and one last thing I thought of ??????.............. Seeing as this aircraft was predominately used in a training role.............. Would the payload be "trainging"ordnance ..........?????.......... or didn't the Luftwaffe bother with such nicwties?????.............. and if they did would the noses or fins have a yellow or

white or some other colour to designate them as such.

......and now we have a crisis.............

......The decals are knackered............. Got everything ready ............... got the wings marked up ............. and the decal just sort of fell apart.............. and on closer inspection the rest of them are cracked in places.............

............ So I've binned them............... and I'll have to see if I can get some more:smile5:
