Hi Peter,I just caught up with this and very nice it is to. I'm not over familiar with this particular aircraft but I'll bet the wheels were aluminium.

The Luftwaffe did use training ordinance ,infact they used concrete training bombs, the concrete being reinforced with metal chippings. A normal tail unit (vane) was bolted to the back of the "bomb" or molded into the concrete, the attachment being reinforced with wire. I can't give you a colour, extant examples are in a yellow/sand colour and black as well as unpainted.

I've seen photos of pre-war practice bombs which are essentially a concrete filled casing and these are a light colour (in B+W),I'm guessing that yellow colour, but it is obviously a guess!

    Cheers

      Steve,

Thanks for the info ............... Aluminium was my first choice on the wheels so I'll just give them some pitting around the rims...........

As for the ordnance ............. That is interesting................. So i think a yellow/black scheme for those.................If nothing else it'll give it some colour...............and as they are a "one shot" deal they probably weren't finished too well and wont need the weather beaaten look...........

      Thanks agin for your help

      Peter

Hi again, the ones I mentioned were either an all over yellow colour or black. Some of the unpainted ones had black noses, sometimes with a white band. It's all a bit vague I'm afraid so just about anything goes! The vanes could be just about any colour, yellow was again popular but they came unpainted (aluminium) frequently. I don't think you'll need to worry about any stencilling at 1/72,many of these "bombs" don't appear to have had any, maybe they were very obviously inert!

        Cheers

Sorry about the double post! I hit the wrong button and thought I'd lost the first effort. Artistic licence is definitely the order of the day on this one.

            Cheers

              So, something like this ?????

I am happy with the finish on the tail fins .......... I thought a rough cast alumiium would do............. I'll need to repaint the nose caps. Didn't get too goos a line on those, found them difficult to mask............ I have no idea why ????

              Cheers to All

                Hi All.................

Well apart from the decals, which as Iโ€™ve said were a disaster........... Iโ€™ve best part done. A couple of bits of detailing to still do but Iโ€™ll leave them until I get some decals on.

All in all this kit has tried both my limited skills and my patience. I think itโ€™s an old kit (according to the KP website they have re-tooled and done some repairs.....I hope they have) and there were lots of alignment issues and nothing much fitted well. The windows were a disaster, only two of them were anywhere close to flat so I binned them and used some clear acetate stuck behind the openings. The fuselage and wings took a lot of lining up to try to get it square and I still reckon there is a little twist in the fuselage. The bombs come as two halves and Iโ€™m one short. One of the halves was so misshapen that there was no way I was going to get that one together......... That went in the bin as well.

As I already posted, I intended to give this an overall โ€œweathered and a bit tiredโ€ finish. Iโ€™m quite happy with the result, although Iโ€™m not sure if Iโ€™ve over done it a bit........ The oily bits and the rusty exhausts took a while............. and the eagle eyed among you might notice the contact area of the tyres.............

Iโ€™ve done my best on this one in the face of great adversity (as they say)......... and Iโ€™m always open to any advice criticism (constructive, abusive or otherwise). When I get some decals on and I've beaten them around to look worn out................ I'll post some more piccies.

I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll bother with a Kopro kit again................ The next one is a Hobby Boss โ€œMorser Carl Geratโ€.

                Cheers to All

                Peter

Hi mate. You've done very well on this 1. You should be pround. Can't wait to see it with the decals.

                    Cheers

Well done Peter, she definitely looks like she's seen some service. It sounds like the kit was a bit of an arse but beating one like that is a source of satisfaction in itself.

                      Cheers

Very nice Peter. It is so nice to see diverse subjects like this, I am quite boring and do very predictable models. Building models like this must be very satisfying, great job.
