Messerschmitt ME-262 Tamiya 1/48

Hi, guys.

Few days ago I started this beautiful plane. This is my second scale model to be constructed, so go easy on me

Cockpit is OOB, and the colour is weird on photos.

Guns and lots of wires made by myself. Guns panited with MM acryl gunmetal before and after drybrushing with silver.

Nice work on one of my favourite aircraft. I like your detailing on the guns which look very nice. My only query would be on your cockpit colour which I'd expect to be a dark grey,RLM66,on an aircraft built when these were.

I'll be doing a two seat 1/32 night fighter version of the Me262 in the new year (work permitting) and seeing your build has got the old juices running!

Yes, it should be RLM 66, but I made a mistake and it was too late to make it better. It is a shame.

No it's not,who knows what may have happened in those difficult times (for German production). Anyway it's hardly in your face once you get the fuselage zipped up! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished job.

So, here is the progress. I used silver colour as my primer, cause I will do some shiping later. This is my first preshading attempt. Hope that I am on the right way.

I have to look good. Let me just explain some things about it.

PRIMER: The primer was applied to the model. Hm-primer. Since I decided to do a little peeling paint effect, as a primer I have inflicted revell silver colour. It was a bit too shiny/too bright.....I don't know... too silver. So I sprayed it with a veeeeery thinly matt black (just to put some colour on a silver) . It was sprayed from a distance (25-30 cm). And the result I really liked. More metallic colour, less silver. But after that I had a real passion

PRESHADING: This will be funny for you because you're experienced, but to me this was far too hard and too stressful. Even painful

Why? How?



Well, like this: I decided to preshading for the first time. And so I was scared that something will go wrong irretrievably that this phase lasted for an hour and a half LOL

With head bowed, and left arm in the same position.

The pressure in the compressor set to 0.5 bar, amount of paint that releases airbrush set to less than the minimum. very little color came out that I had to go over one place about dozen of times just to perceive a colour at all.

Result of everything: Painfull back, painfull neck, painfull shoulder and those photos above

Well your pain did not go unrewarded! Its looking really good. Hopefully the top paint will be a little less painful!

I well remember the pain of my first pre shade spray lol, I also found I didn't breath while doing each section. Now, it is just routine. Thanks for the memory lol

The detail on this model is very impressive, the wheel wells in particular look superb. You are certainly making the most of it as well and bringing out all the lovely detail extreemly effectively. Great job.

I have one question for you, guys. If I want to do postshading, do I have to put a bit of black colour in camouflage colour?

Here is update.

I put camouflage paint on "messer". I like it. Hope you guys will like it, too. But if you see any mistakes at all, please report it. Maybe I can still fix it. I told before that I will do some chipping, but I withdrew. I decided to do drybrushing instead.

You will see the plane before and after drybrushing. I did the most of drybrushing on walking areas (left wing).

Unfortunately, I broke the front landing gear But i will fix it at the end.

Normally you would add a tiny amount of a lighter colour, for example yellow in the green and shade over the centre areas of the green camo, then do the same with the other colour. for example a grey camo could be lightened with white or a paler grey.

Remember to thin it well and spray gently, building the effect slowly. take a pause and have a good look at it when dry. Repeat if you think it needs more. IF IN DOUBT STOP!
