Revell P-51b Mustang 1/72

4th attempt.Another cheapo kit to practice on, only £4.99. Looking at the mouldings they seem very finely engraved with only a very little flash, almost seems a shame to paint it. This one comes with cockpit detail on the sides, nice seat with belts moulded on, control column and instrument panel. Lets hope it fits together better and the last Airfix attempt.

That looks a really nice kit. I hope you are doing the shark mouth. I know it is sad and a bit childish but I love shark mouth aircraft........

Still proving you can enjoy the hobby without having to spend a fortune. I'm a great fan of 1/72nd aircraft, I used to make them very regulary in the days when that was all I could afford.

Done a little bit more, had a small problem in that I was just holding the instrument panel in the tweezers to put a couple of dabs of liquid glue on it when it slid out of the tweezers bounced and shot straight down into the gluepot, fished it out and dabbed it dry but it doesn't look so good now. I'll put that down to the learning curve. ie Don't dangle bits above the open glue...

Oooo, what a shame about the instrument panel. As you say, a lesson learned but what a hard way to learn it.

Here with a few more piccies. You will see that after I put a drop of paint on it an enormous gap suddenly appeared at the wing root. Can't believe I missed that. I have decided to hang all the bits on it, Bazooka tubes and drop tanks which will make it the American version that according to the documentation served in China. Also in a fit of gay abandon I sawed the canopy to bits to try and do it with the canopy open. The grey on the underside looks rather dark but its on now and I'm under instructions to get things cleared away for Christmas. If I don't manage another post before Christmas Happy Christmas and have a great New Year everyone.

It's now done. With hindsight the dismantling of the canopy was probably a skill too far as it was far too small to paint and fit decently, especially with my level of eyesight. I also knocked the df loop off the spine and it promptly disappeared never to be found again. The ridge at the starboard wing root is still prominent as i was doubtful whether I could file any more off without going through the moulding. Anyway it's as good as it's going to get.
