    Airfix "scooter"

A mate just sent me a 1/72 new tool Airfix A4 Skyhawk. I don't think they are out here in SA yet so I am very exited about this little plane :-)

Airfix seem to be getting better with every new releace.

I've just build their "new tool" 1/72 Harrier and it's an awesome little kit. The BF-109 and Spit mk XII in 1/48 look similar quality. It says good things for Airfix these days!

Ah, a new tool Harrier? I read a review that the "combat deo" of the A-4 and Harrier had the old tool Harrier still.

Maybe the combat duo packaging is a crafty way of shifting the old stock.

Hi , the box says A-4 B/P and gives decals for the US Navy VA 95 Green lizards (the one I will do) aswell as Grupo 5 de caza FAA, but I like the bold sceme of the USN more.

Only hassle I can see is the big star/bar on the forward fuse that have to conform over the IFR probe, hope it will work with microsol!

I plan to do a small cat deck scene and got some good shots of the cable and holdbacks, flap settings ect.

Without a doubt I will do a thread. I have been out of plactics for to long!

Just to add to the exitement of this plane, I was surprized with another A-4 E/F kit in the mail. This time a Hasagawa 1/48 , this is just to good!

the dogfight box is apparently the old FRS 1 but the one i build was new tool (pale grey/blue plastic gives it away) and was a pleasant build

                        Thanx Ian!

It looks real cool. I just think that "red shirt" should not turn his back on the plane as it is about to be shot off the deck, he might get a sidewinder in the back and go allong fo the ride! LOL

I actually have a cool idea for a "landing" cene where the hook has just engaced the trap cable. In this way all the slats, flaps and brakes can be open displaying the bright red against the grey of the airframe. I will just have to see how I can sumulate the effect of "speed and movement" by streaking the base of the deck.

I have done a little mod to the wing of the A-4.

The flaps were cut away from the wing, sanded thinner to look like the upper part of the split flaps portion and then glued/filled/sanded back onto the wing.

The flaps will be from thin plastic sheet.

Sofar the build is going OK, just needed to do some filling and sanding on the bottom of the wing and a few other places.

In doing so I managed to break off (and loose 1) 2 of the slat rails !

The "weapons" load will be the 2 wing tanks and I will build a multiple ejector rak (MER) that fits to the centre line pylon for the 2 retatded bombs.

                            Primed and ready for paint.

Allot of fidly stuff to first paint and then add after masikng is off.

I will not be doing the diorama for this, rather do it on the 1/48 Scooters I have in the stach :-)

VA-95 Green Lizzards on USS Intrepid 1966 First Vietnam cruise.

I just have to say Airfix got a nice kit here, the decals are also outstanding! The formed very well and not the slightedt bit of silvering or carrier film visable.
