Another BF109E build you say? But its SWISS!

    Ok Guys:

I was given a Has 1/32 BF109E by my son for my 40th Birthday. I found some great swiss markings and was surprised at the few modifications implemented for export. I've started tearing the kit apart and I'll try to get a few photos in too. Take care, Jeff

Will be following this with interest. Also have a set of 1/72 scale swiss markings sitting around.

The kit and additionl markings and mods required

This is the ancient Hasegawa BF109E kit which contains special night fighter markings plus a "special clear crystal" to represent radar. Personally I'm leaving off the crystal because of its magical powers being needed to summon the elfin snow removal creatures. :lala: And its -25 below zero this AM so the elves can also heat up my car too!

As you can see, the cockpit is barley passable to justify any hard labor so this aircraft will be a wheels up\closed canopy configuration. I think the Swiss deserve better!

I have seen worse cockpits than that Jeff, I think it will look OK with some of your TLC (Tender Loving Care) painting and detailing.

Nice one you simply can't have too many 109s. A Swiss one will be very nice,I'm sure I have some decals somewhere for an Italian G but I might have imagined them.

                  Cheers

                    Hello Again , Gang!

Actually Graham, this cockpit is not that bad after all:surrender:The cowling is a bit fiddly and the join\gasket line is a little wider than though but since this A/C is all uppersides RLM70, this gap may not be so severe-not sure if I want to fill it in a little or not. Take care and have a great eve! Jeff

Some good progress there. I see you subscribe to the "single upper colour export" school. Nothing wrong with that,me,I sit comfortably on this fence lol.

                      Cheers

                        Thanks Steve:

There are several aircraft showing the classic RLM70/71 splinter scheme but not this particular one:

                        J-362-Fl Kp 8, Avenches, Summer 1940

The decals are from Victory Models

Fascinating stuff this Luftwaffe camouflage is! Take care, Jeff

There's a lot of options on that sheet. I've always fancied doing one with the red and white stripes. I understand this was to stop a repetition of an unfortunate incident when the Americans mistook a couple of Swiss 109s for Germans and shot them down. The striping was short lived as the resulting stripes resembled allied invasion stripes and caused the Luftwaffe to start shooting at them instead. I'm sure they seemed like a good idea at the time.

                          Cheers

                            Hi ,

Lovely cockpit details, how do you paint those dials any tips.

                            regards

                            Tony

OMG Tony: There're the kit decals!!!!! I'm so sorry I forgot to mention this!

Well, at least the green test paint looks good......

Oh COME ON JEFF! Did you really think this kit was just going to fall together just because the big "Mr. H" name is on the cover? A slight misfit in the cowling plus large gaps in the join lines will need to be puttied in, sanded and re-scribed. The spine looks good though and the undersides won't be too visible so just a bit more filler and sanding and I should be good to move ahead to the next "easy" area: the wings. Take care, Jeff
