Bit late now but a good way around that problem, THAT WE HAVE ALL TRIED, is to drill a hole on the bottom and fill the nose with shot and hold it together with PVA or super glue. Mind the super glue though, it can get hot if there is a lot in one place. PVA is safer but takes forever to dry in a closed space...
Once its dry, just fill the hole and sand smooth.
I have now done this three time and finds it gives a good result.
