    Airfix 1:48 Bf109

Just got this kit, never done a 1:48 before ... bit dissapointed that the instructions give you a paint colour (number only) for individual parts, but no where does it give you the actual colour GRRRRRR!!! lol

    Gawd bless the interweb lol

im kinda hoping to really do justice to what looks like a great kit ... photos to follow

    wish me luck :cheesygrin::cheesygrin:

can anyone recommend any reference photos i could use ???

    ty in advance

I would go to Google Images and stick BF 109 in the box. I'm sure you will come up with thousands of possibilities. it wouldn't surprise me if there are even specialist sites out there for them, I'm sure our very learned friend Stona will know.

Good luck with the build, I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Hi Goose, you didn't say which aircraft you are planning to build,I assume one of the kit options. Let us know and I may have some information or pictures for you. Otherwise I may able to point you in the correct direction. I can definitely help you out with the colours.

      Cheers

The Galland,Boehm,II/LG2 options? I've got a piccies of Boehm's crashed aircraft and dozens of Galland's various mounts. LG2,in that scheme, might be a bit trickier.

Hi again Goose. I've just had a look at the instructions for your kit and the painting scheme is very good, matching photographs well. I don't know how familiar you are with Luftwaffe camouflage colours so please don't be offended if you already know this stuff.

I will try to equate the colours on your instructions with the actual colours stipulated by the german air ministry (RLM)

31 Slate Grey. This represents RLM 02. it is the colour of the landing gear legs, wheel wells, cockpit and other internal surfaces as well as one of the camouflage colours.

65 Aircraft Blue. This represents RLM 65 which is a surprisingly bright blue colour used on lower surfaces

91 Black Green. This is RLM 71 one of the upper surface colours. It is also the colour of the propeller blades and, originally, spinner though your spinner is overpainted apart from the back plate.

117 US Light Green. I'm guessing this is RLM 70 but I don't think this was applied to your aircraft. It may be in the mottle.

154 Insignia Yellow. This is RLM 04 an orangey yellow colour used for unit and tactical markings.

Here's a profile from Eric Mombeek to give you some more info. I don't know about the mouse and I'm not qualified to argue with Mombeek. I'll just say that some people think it was applied as early as October. Put it on if you like!

                Here it is.

I'm not sure how close those Humbrol colours are,a quick google of RLM colours should bring up some stuff you can compare if you are bothered. I don't believe in getting too tied up in the niceties of these shades as applied to a model.

                Good luck with your model.

                Cheers
