Nice job Neil, your Falcon is looking good mate. Ian's suggestion is how I would do it too, pack the inside of the frame with plastic card to push it into shape against the frame and glue the gaps.

Thanks for the suggestion, guys. I think what I'll do is try out my idea for the seat/HUD cover and see how that comes out. If it's ok, I'll do it canopy up and save myself the hassle

      Cheers, Neil

Hi all. Got a little done this weekend. The Thunderbirds seem to have had lots of different designs for their seat and intake covers, so I've used a little artistic license ( and a spare decal! ) and come up with this. I think it turned out quite well, so added a matching HUD cover too.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the result. Hopefully close to getting some colour on it soon....

              Cheers, Neil

Nice job on the seat cover neil , and the extra detail in the U/C bays is superb. Are you going to go the whole hog and have a FOD cover on the intake too? (and seeing as youre pimping it with the seat covers ,how about some furry dice and a sun visor with the names on , maybe "neil + swmbo " ) cheers tony

To be honest Tony, I've been thinking about the intake cover. I'd quite like to do one as there's a bit of an ugly seam left in the intake, but the ones I've seen have all had some sort of emblem on them or been quite complicated schemes. If I can come up with something, I think I will though.

The furry dice and sunstrip may be a but tricky in 1/72, but if a 1/24 MK1 Escort or similar finds it's way into the stash, who knows......

                        Cheers, Neil

Nice work Neil. The intake cover shouldn't be too hard. You could almost do one out of masking tape.

Hi all, got a little bit more done. The exhaust isn't overly detailed, but it's better than some I've seen. I have to be a bit careful as it'll stand out quite a bit on the finished airframe I think, but I don't think it's come out too bad. There's a (very) small pipe that injects oil for the smoke to add, but I think that'll be a job for later on.

                            Cheers, Neil

Hi all, just a small update. Just tweaked the missile rails to look a little more in scale.

In other news, I think I may have buggered up the canopy ! I was trying to be clever and tried dipping it for the first time. Went ok, but seemed to come out with a couple of air bubble and a hair in it !! It was then pointed out to me that I'd dipped it in Humbrol gloss cote, not clear as I thought I'd bought !! It didn't look too bad, but then I had the bright idea of maybe tidying it up with some white spirit and ended up pulling gloops of sticky stuff off it, and snapping one of the rear mounting "legs".

So, managed to take off all the gloss cote, and repair the snap, bit it's left the canopy distinctly foggy. I've bought some clear and given it a coat of that, which has improved it a l ittle. I'll try another coat, but I'm not holding my breath !! So things are on hold until I see how this turns out......the joys of modelmaking !!

                              Cheers, Neil
