Well im still waiting for my 1/4 pilots to be made. Having to wait is holding up progress on the cockpit, i need the pilot so i can set the seat height. So in the meantime its back to the front end.

I have now fitted the Amo storage container and the metal frame for the Vickers Gun. These parts will be viewable through the inspection window in the panel so they had to look right.

The next job is overcoming the exhaust problem. As you can see i made up a section from 15mm copper pipe with an elbow and a reducer to adapt the silicon rubber coupling. I then made two brackets from some thin section brass that i had amongst my stocks.

Next in is the Fuel Tank. I would have prefered a larger capacity but as you can see there isnt much room in there. I have added a flat deck for the tank to sit on and have left a gap so that i can cable tie it down. This also doubles for air circulation.

The next problem is to overcome the location and fixing of the throttle servo, as you can see. im not able to put it where i wanted to so i have to make some sort of mount and fit it in the engine compartment in line with the carb. Some sort of 'L' bracket fixed to the engine mounting plate is needed.

    Cheers

    Andy

Wow Andy she is looking great! How long of a flight do you think that tank will give? I've used micro servos for the the throttle due to size and fit problems in the past ,maybe that would help?

Hi Trey, thanks for the kind words. Not sure on the flight time, im guessing around 10mins. I will have to run her without the prop and time the duration and then take a few minutes off for loading. I like the idea of micro servos, i have a couple that will do the job.

          Cheers

              Hello Andy.

For a few days I observe this post.

It's an impressive, magic (in every sense) and personnel work. For this motive I'm afraid of saying something (not badly) but if out of place (English isn't my mother language).

Only to be grateful that you share this magnificent construction with all of us.

              Thank you.

              Regards

              Polux

Ps. Like Ron I would like so much observing in silently with a cup of tea in my hands!!

                Hi Polux

Thank you very much for your kind words. Im glad so many people are enjoying this project as much as i am. Im always open to comments good or bad and if i can make improvements as i go along then the more the better. This is going to be quite a long slow project and should last for quite a few months yet, i just hope that you all stay with me and follow this through to the end.

Thanks to everyone who is watching this build and please do not be affraid to step in.

                Andy

Further progress of the Old Dutch.

I have now painted the fuel tank area, thought it would be an advantage against any spillages.

Next i set to work on making the mount for the micro servo for the throttle, this will stand next to the engine and mounted on the engine plate.

Now its time to construct the control column. This is made by using a curtain ring 19mm, a short cut to length piece of ali tube and some styrene pieces.

Matt Black paint for the stick with Silver for the top and triggers when i have added them.

Still a way to go with this so stay tuned.

                  Cheers

Well i have progressed with the Control Column and got it finished.

I wrapped the Curtain ring with a thread that they use for making bead necklaces, you can get it from Hobby Craft, it is quite cheap and has many uses due to it being braided. Once wrapped around a quick few drops with thin ZAP CA to weld it all together and then i cut a very thin strip of Solatex to wrap around to give a leather binding look. Then i moved on to construct the gun triggers. Hope you like it.

I had a chat with my old friend Mike from Klasskote the other day, he told me that the supply of my 1/4 pilot that im looking for could be another couple of months yet. I really cant wait that long. it will put the build on hold as i need to finish the cockpit before i can go further. With this in mind i have decided to use the 1/5 scale pilot that i have in reserve, 'Sailor Malan' i know its not quite correct but ill make him look suitable and right at home in there.

The problem that i have is that the posture isnt correct and some measuring, cutting, trying and cutting again was needed. Once the correct position is achieved a quick fix the slow ZAP CA and some trusty Squadren Green Filler is all that is needed.

Adustments have been made to the legs and the right arm,

                      Cheers

I've just had a 'catch up' with your build Andy. Great stuff,a true labour of love. I hope that pilot had an anaesthetic before his operation!

                        Cheers
