I set to work on makeing the Clock face bezzels today. I have completed the dash but there are still 2 to make, these are the clock and the Height meter, These are mounted on the cockpit deck and will be completed later when i know the exact measurement. As you can see, these are made from a 60mm diameter peice of nylon stock. A little bit of work for the lathe. I have given them a coat of matt black and will finish them off woth a coat of Satin varnish.

A little more progress on "The Old Dutch" and a little variety added. I forgot to make the level indicator that is hidden behind the stick in the picture so i set to work and completed it.

The Lewis Gun arrived the other day, i wont build it just yet as this sits on the top wing mid section. The one that i am realy waiting for is the Vickers Gun, once i have this i can progress with the metal work. I have it on order from Balsa USA and have to wait for it to come from America as no one has one in stock here. I could scratch these im sure but i think the proper kits will look better and will save me some time. And also provide me with a pattern for future projects or anyone who wants to save themselves a few quid.

Here is a view of the cockpit floor, while im waiting for this Vickers ill concentrate on scratching this, should keep me busy for a while lol.

I have made a start, adding the ply liner and some wood stain.

I have noticed a tank at the front of the foot well and presume that its some sort of oil resevoir or water tank that is there to cool the Vickers Gun. I will bash it and weather it a little before fitting it in place.

                  Cheers

WOW! That dash is looking fantastic. One thing did sort of catch my eye, and I had to go back a few pages to look at the picture of the full size dash you posted. I know you are going for nothing short of perfection, so I know you will not take it the wrong way:

The white Petrol settings dial. Is it just me, or is it orientated the wrong way. In the cock pit photo the "off" position is at 3 O'clock and the screws are between the words. On your dash the screws are right next to/below the words and the "off" has jumped up to half past one, if you follow what I mean.

Regardless of that it still looks fantastic.

First of all. Welcome back Graham good see to you posting again, i do hope its not a short trem thing and thank you for your kind words to. Ian i hear what you are saying and yes you are correct, however, i have checked a few pics of the real thing and it seems that there are many variants to this, one i have seen has 4 OFF positions marked on it. I just didnt want to make it too uniform and trying to put a mix of everything into it. I have also seen a picture where the rev counter is Black and not white.

                            Cheers Guys

No problem, Andy, I thought I would mention it just in case as it was so eye catching after having seen the picture you posted earlier. I just assumed that it was that picture you had used as reference.

Regardless, that is one Überkool instrument panel.

Only just caught up with this thread in the last couple of weeks and I must say you’re a fast builder Andy; it seems to be taking me as long to read the thread as it is taking you to build the SE5a!

DB SE5a’s always make impressive models, they fly beautifully and at ¼ scale the amount of detailing is only limited by the amount of time and effort you’re prepared to put into the build and it’s obvious that you are putting everything into this model; I can’t think of a more fitting tribute.

The basic airframe is reasonably accurate, only let down by the very rear, the tail plane and more especially the fin attachment and I’m not convinced by the “round topped” radiator, it is classed as semi-scale but I’m sure it could be modified very easily if you so wished.

Brilliant thread so far; keep up the good work, I’ll be watching with interest from now on.
