During my scouring the internet of images of a Russian Helix, a couple things became apparent.
1. Colour schemes really do vary. (So I'm going to stick with the colours I already have on the fuselage)
2. The one that appeared on nigh on every picture of the helicopter I looked at. The area aft of the exhaust was painted black, Similar to our Sea Kings.

So I decided as it seemed the norm to have it painted black - then mine would too!
Out Tamiya masking tape and set about creating the modification.

Taped off area to be sprayed.

End result! I also changed the intake from Nato Black to Satin Black as most appeared to have a more gloss appearance on the 1:1.
Still have a couple hand holds fwd of the front cockpit windows and external mirrors to attach and the pitot tube.
Then it will be varnishing prior to decals. The dreaded decals!! Should be easier as I now have Micro Sol/Set this time!!!
That's all folks
C&C's most welcome

Flory Models grime wash, it is clay based and can be taken off with tissue when dry. Apply over a satin or gloss finish (varnish) Flory do videos on YT on how to use it. He uses an airbrush but it can be applied by brush. BUT, follow the advice and put a small amount into a pill cup so that you do not contaminate it. It lasts forever.Comment

Bit of a test post on the new forum and also a brief update on the Helix.
I took the opportunity of the forum in limbo to catch up on a few other things. (OK - the dreaded list of chores).
Today was tidy up a couple of external mirrors on the pilots sliding doors. They are not fitted. Also repainted the pitot tube, that is remaining off as I can see it becoming broke when I either remove the masking from the windows OR, when I start weathering the airframe.
Now I was in a position to apply a couple of coats of gloss varnish. Again I used the Gaahleri AB, as I find it so much more comfortable to hold. So now to wait 24 hours or more before 'decals'.
That was it for the day, needle now sitting in IPA after using varnish. Always dread using the stuff!!
That's all folks.

Hey, no problem Jim R
With what’s occurring with the forums transition it’s been so easy to miss anything!! Thank you for your positive reply, makes blogging the build so much more appreciated.
Well, all the decals are on now, I’ll revisit them tomorrow and check if they need more Micro-Sol prior to another varnish coat then weathering!!
I did a bit of ‘winging it’. I added three small ‘42’ to nose radar, cabin door and under the tail. (To make easier for a crew to ID the correct chopper when on the ground!!!
first experience with the ‘Set/Sol’ solutions. Impressed so far!!
Taster pic, more later. ?

OK, thank you if you made it this far.
That's all the decals fitted, after I took the images I actually decided to fit the pitot tube on the nose. Only two handles to fit and that is the plastic all in place.
Tomorrow should be a final look at the decals to ensure they are lying well and suitably contoured over a few of the humps and bumps. If all well, a matt varnish in preparation for weathering.
SWMBO still can't believe it's not finished off. Doesn't understand after getting it all shiny and such why I now have to weather it!!!!
Thanks for looking in. Nearly there then I can plan how much explosive I need to fill my 1:72 Wasp!!!!!!!
C&C's always welcomed.
