    1/72 Airfix Yakovlev Yak-3

Another ancient Airfix "Aircraft of the Aces" kit. Only a couple of these left to go now, thank goodness. This was an Airfix re-box of the Heller kitset. It's completely out of the box with the exception of the tail wheel doors which were fashioned from plastic card after the carpet monster ate the originals for supper.

Yakovlev Yak-3 in the scheme of General Georgi N. Zakharov, 303rd Fighter Air Division, Eastern Front 1944. Zakharov fought in the Spanish Civil War. From February 1943 to July 1945 he commanded the 303rd Fighter Air Division, which included the famous French-manned Normandie-Niemen Regiment. By the end of the Second World War he was credited with 18 aerial victories and post-war held various command positions in the Soviet Air Force.

I've said before it's nice to see old kits built. I can probably count the parts in the kit just by looking at the model ! Nice job Joe.

I missed this one Joe! I don't know much about the kit, but it looks a great build to me, I love these different planes because they're inspirational for someone like me.
