This was a quick build to keep my Spitfire company on my office shelf. It was also used as a test bed for AK Interactive's new Air range of acrylic paints and their weathering washes/pigments.
I have to say that the AK paints are outstanding. Clearly made by Vallejo and in the same packaging but they seem to have a different formula. Like Vallejo they spray beautifully, if anything more trouble free than Vallejo. I thoroughly recommend them. In this I used their RAF WW2 Camo set.
As for the weathering washes, I love them and there is a lot of sense to using these enamel washes over acrylic paints and varnishes. I found the pigments much better than Vallejo's, much finer. The overall effect is not as good as I wanted on this kit but that is entirely my fault as I was experimenting and on my next build will do better. That said I am pleased with the way the model turned out and it does look good on my shelf next to my recent Spit.
As for the kit. This is billed as a 'new tool' but if, like me, you expected a fit as good as the Airfix new tool then you will be disappointed. There are a lot of fit issues and the wing/fuselage join in particular needed a lot of filling, sanding and shaping. The stabilisers seem also to be made for another aircraft.... But do not be put off, with a little work you can get a really nice little Hurricane and I did enjoy the build.
Some pics.
