Anyone wanting an accurate 1/72 Helldiver would be better off starting with the Academy kit, but I was asked by Airfix Model World magazine to build this, the old Airfix kit. All the rivets were sanded off, a cockpit interior scratch built, the model was re-scribed and vac-form canopies used. I also cut and dropped the leading edge slats, as this happened when the undercarriage was down.

Wow - that's great. Such a lot of work to improve this old kit, but now it looks simply fantastic.Comment

Superb skills Mike , you wouldnt think it was a 47 year old moulding!! Ive always had a soft spot for the old Airfix Helldiver as it was one of the first kits i was allowed to have a go at myself as a nipper. I vaguely recall it being very blue (the plastic) and having lots of windows to get gluey fingerprints all over but i loved it . I keep saying I must do it again but I think the Academy one is looking more attractive these days!! Great job , cheers tonyComment
