Oh, I'll watch this with interest having just mangled the airfix 1/72 - this is going to be a bit large at 1/48 - what's the wingspan going to be? the 1/72 is definitely more than 30cm so this will be a bit of a monster.

      Wing span is 69cm (27 inches)Neil.So it's a big model.

I made a start on this tonight.Glued the flight deck parts together and sprayed a coat of Alclad primer on them and the resin engines. The engines are much better detailed than the kit ones. But they don't have any pushrods. Some I will add some with plastic rod.I also glued two bulkheads inside one fuselage half.Ive taped both halves together whilst the glue dries to make sure they are positioned properly. The fuselage sides are slightly warped near the front end.So I've clamped them whilst the glue on the bulkhead sets.Havent decided if I'm going to have the bomb doors open or closed yet.But I am going to rescribe the raised detail.

'G' clamps are essential modelling tools when you build these old kits!.

I've got some work done on this over the past week.Ive assembled the cockpit and painted the resin after market engines. They don't have any push rod tubes moulded on them.So I may get some plastic rod and make some. The colour Ive used for the interior green is too light. But it matches the Eduard pre painted instrument panel.Ive not made up my mind about having the bomb doors open or closed yet.If I have them closed,I won't bother building up the bomb bays.I need to remove some of the wash as there is too much on the interior.

I didn't think there was too much of a wash on the interior Dave. Nice work so far.

I posted some links a while back in the reference section on US interior colours - apparently they varied a bit so that colour is probably just fine. Wash looks good too to me.

What a great find. I'll be watching this one...

I took the lid off the Lancaster box yesterday. Put it back on pretty quick I can tell you. Just not the room for it right now.

                        Good work so far Dave.

Got some more done tonight. The interior is now all done.I beefed up the bulkhead that the nose wheel attaches to with some bits of sprue as its a bit flimsy. The kit includes some bomb bay detail and a full bomb load. But as Im going for the closed doors option, I haven't bothered adding those parts.I will probably glue the fuselage halves together tomorrow.

I've cut some pieces of lead sheet to size and glued them to the roof of the nose gear bay.Ive put plenty in so the model will not sit on its tail. Then I glued the fuselage halves together.I will leave the forward bomb bay doors off until the model is together. Then I will be able to get some more weight in if necessary.
