This is the old AMT/ERTL kit re-released by Italeri. It features fine engraved panel lines and nicely detailed undercarriage and cockpit.Ive finished it in the markings of an unknown RAF squadron in Tunisia 1943.I first built this kit around 20 years ago when it was first released as a solid nose A20G Havoc variant. This issue has a separate glazed bomber nose for an RAF mk3 Boston. The nose section isn't a brilliant fit and needed a fair bit of filling and sanding.I then found the clear nose part was a bad fit.I should have spent more time on it.I also managed to drop the model onto the concrete floor of my garage. This cracked the cockpit canopy.Anyway ,I decided to use the model as a weathering exercise.i sprayed the undersides Humbrol enamel azure blue. Then I lightened the colour with some white and sprayed it in the centre of panels. The upper surface camo was painted with Xtracolour enamel dark earth and middle stone.Again,I then sprayed the same colours mixed with a bit of white in the centre of panels.Ive been reading about oil paint weathering and decided to give it a go.I put small spots of different shades of brown ,yellow and some black all over the model with the end of a cocktail stick. Then taking a brush dampened with white spirit I pulled the paint dots back across the model in the direction of the airflow.I also tried to replicate wear by dabbing a piece of sponge with aluminium paint on it onto the wing roots. Finally,I sealed it all with Alclad matte cote. And for my first proper weathering job,I'm rather pleased with it.
