    Grumman Wildcat Finished

    Hi All

Here's my finished Wildcat I hope you like it. It was built in the true spirit of a 43 year model so it's not entirely accruate but I think it looks OK.

    Hi All

Here are a few more images taken without flash which I think gives a more accurate colour of the intermediate blue I used( it looked decidedly purple/blue).

Nice build Vaughan.Your home made seat belts definately improve the seat detail. The decals look painted on.Top marks from me.

        Hi Dave

Thanks for that. I think it came out OK in the end even though it's 42 years old I think it's stood the test of time. I know that the panel detail maybe a bit over the top in comparison to todays models but it still gives a good overall impression.

Vaughan very nice build and working with an old subject like that has its own set of challenges which you tackled very well. I'm with Dave nice touch with the seat belts as well

Old or not, you've done a very nice job of that Vaughan!

One challenge with kits of this age is to get the transfers to sit down over the raised rivet detail. You've got it spot on and the transfers really do look painted on. You could have gently rubberd down the tops of the rivets with a fine wet and dry but I think there is a degree of charm with making very old kits and it's sometimes rewarding to build it straight out of the box. This one has come out really well and shows to remind us that there are a lot of older kits, usually available very cheaply, that we can still enjoy building.

Thanks for all your comments. Here is one last image as I forgot to paint the propeller tips.
