    Hobby Boss 1/72 MC.200 'Saetta'

Here is the build thread for this: http://www.scale-models.co.uk/thread...-saetta.31697/

In summary, I've added extra details in the form of:
    • Instrument panel
    • Machine guns (the kit just had 'tokens' moulded onto the fuselage)
    • Extra undercarriage doors (the kit just had the largest ones)
    • Air intake under cowling
    • Pitot tube
    • Fixed gap in top of cowling

Sorry about the quality of the photos - I'm still mastering the camera on my phone and the results are variable to say the least.

I really enjoyed building this kit. The quality and fit of the basic kit parts is really high, and the extra details are easy to do. Decals are also of a very high quality, and there are sets for two schemes, of which I chose the most colourful. The markings are for a 362 Squadriglia machine fighting in Russia in 1941. I expect the Saettas did well against most Russian planes they encountered at that time, but they might have regretted the open cockpit once winter came!

Really nice Doug. Not the easiest of schemes to pull off in 1/72 but your result is excellent.

I've fancied doing an Italian fighter myself (in 1/32) as the schemes are always really interesting. Sadly, the Pacific Coast Maachi and Fiat kits are pretty hard to come by now.

    Great work Doug

    Cheers

Nice work Doug. A lot of time spent to achieve that.

Beautiful finish Doug. Nice camouflgae work, it looks the part, and the extra details you added make a difference to what is otherwise a bland looking kit. Agree that the open cockpit must have been rather uncomfortable in the winter air. This site has some good info on the Saetta on the Eastern Front: http://italianaircraftwwii.blogspot.co.nz/2015/03/saetta-on-eastern-front.html. With the Macchi 202 they achieved a kill/loss ratio of 88 to 15, not bad for what were rather antiquated types.Looks like it was all over for them by the end of 1942 though. Great build.

Looks just right, a difficult scheme to replicate in 1/72, but you killed it.
