Just finished this one.Ive built it as Lancaster B mk1 serial number W4118 flown by Wing Commander Guy Gibson when he was C.O of no.106 sqdn. This was before he led 617sqdn on the famous dambusters raid. This aircraft was eventually lost on a raid to Turin on the night of 4/5 Feb 1943.I haven't bothered with exhaust staining because I like the model as it is.I replaced the kit gun barrels with turned brass items from 'Master'. And I used Eduards seat belt and cockpit 'Zoom' set. The nose art and serial numbers were left over from the first time I built this kit around 20 years ago.All the others are from Xtradecal sheets. And I painted the black lines on the wings as the decals were awful.

This is I'm sure we will all agree the best Lancaster we have seen on model sites for a time. I have built many lancasters ( 1/72 ) but never to this scale or to this expertise.
I spent 45 mins looking and re looking ( not for faults as there are none but to awe at the beauty of the aircraft.
Awesome ( just love it )
On a personal note my ex wife's father was a navigator on Mosquitos then on Lancaster's and he was deaf as a post in the left ear as he was sat on the left side of lancs. I remember asking him once were you ever afraid and he said never...
It was always someone else not me and that got me through the war!!! His brother was a spitfire pilot and got shot down late in the war, and I don't know if he meant this but he said if he was in bomber command he may be still alive.

That's a really nice Lancaster Dave. I enjoy following your builds regardless of the subject matter as you always seem to find a way around problems and produce something quite exceptional. What's next?On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.Comment
