    41(f) Sqn In 1/48 - Harrier Gr9

    Hi all;

    Last one of the year for my collection of 41(F) Squadron aircraft in 1/48 - I really will get them all done for the Sqn's Centenary in 2016!!

    This is the Hasegawa Harrier GR9 (it's boxed as a GR7, but the bits are in the box to make a 9), with Aires cockpit, and using the decals from the Revell boxing of the same kit to show a GR9 of 41(Reserve) Sqn, RAF Coningsby 2006. It's a bit of a bitch to make; the wing/fuselage/LERX/intake joins are terrible, and need lots of filing, sanding, filling and swearing to make anything like a decent fit - not what I'd expect from Hasegawa. I scratch built the RAIDS pod and the AIM-9 Captive Seeker pod from the Sidewinders supplied with the kit.

    When the Jaguar was withdrawn from service and 41 ceased to be an operational squadron, the numberplate was given to the Fast Jet Weapons Operational Evaluation Unit (now the Test and Evaluation Sqn); they operated a mixed fleet of Harriers, Tornado GR4 and Tornado F3, and now have Typhoon FGR4 on their books.

    Have a great Christmas everyone - may Santa bring you lots of plastic!

      Very nice Andy, I know you've had problems with this one but it looks blinding mate, I've no doubt you'll get them all done.

      As I said this is the same kit as the revell gr7/9 (rebox) which I have in the stash, where did you get the Aires cockpit from? Don't suppose you have a product code? Did you use any other aftermarket? And how did the decals go down?

      Cheers

            Hi Phil; as far as I know, the Revell kit is a rebox of this one. I got the Aries set from their stand at Telford; I didn't use all of it, but the seat and cockpit tub are excellent. That was it for aftermarket. The decals were a mix of Revell, Hasegawa and Xtradecal - no problems with any of them.

                    You'll never tempt me with a GR4!!! Never a bomber squadron! I'll go as far as an F3, but even that will be through gritted teeth!
