Hi guys,
Well I have finally finished the D9 (my forth build), a little later than expected but I have been extremely busy with work and just life in general. It had some fit issues which I was warned about and the fuselage needed some unnerving clamping and slow tightening whilst gluing (with extra thin) around the exposed back part of the engine but it did come together in the end. This was the overtrees from Eduard but I do have another Profipack that I will tackle with a different scheme at some point and I will do some things differently but hey that means I'm still learning from my mistakes.
You'll see from my build thread that I opened up a hatch to show an auxiliary fuel tank and inner fuselage detail and Eduard PE was used for the cockpit dials ect. A tiny piece of rolled white tac was rolled and used as the brown leather guard above the instrument panels.
Paints used were Mr.Hobby, Vallejo and Tamiya.
I think that's it, now for some backround:
Flown by Lt. Heinz "Heino" Sachesenberg the "Red 1" was part of Adolf Gallands JV44 airfield protection unit.
Because of the greater length of runway it required, and the slow acceleration it had at low speeds, the Me 262 (which was the main Plane of the JV44 program in the last months of the war) was especially vulnerable during take-off and landing and thus led to D9's and D11's being used as protection to the overall Papagei Staffel or Parrot squadron.
The slogan on the side "Verkaaft's mei Gwand, I foahr in himmel!" translates as "Sell my cloths, I am going to heaven!"
This D9 was abandoned by retreating Germans and discovered by U.S troops at Munchen-Reim airbase in April 1945.
Thanks for looking and I hope you like it, as always any tips or criticism welcome.
Cheers
Phil
