    1/32 Revell Tornado GR1.Mk 1

The Panavia Tornado is a family of twin-engine, variable-sweep wing multirole combat aircraft, which was jointly developed and manufactured by Italy, the United Kingdom, and West Germany. There are three primary Tornado variants: the Tornado IDS (interdictor/strike) fighter-bomber, the suppression of enemy air defences Tornado ECR (electronic combat/reconnaissance) and the Tornado ADV (air defence variant) interceptor aircraft.

The Tornado was developed and built by Panavia Aircraft GmbH, a tri-national consortium consisting of British Aerospace (previously British Aircraft Corporation), MBB of West Germany, and Aeritalia of Italy. It first flew on 14 August 1974 and was introduced into service in 1979–1980. Due to its multirole nature, it was able to replace several different fleets of aircraft in the adopting air forces. The Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) became the only export operator of the Tornado in addition to the three original partner nations. A tri-nation training and evaluation unit operating from RAF Cottesmore, the Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment, maintained a level of  international co-operation beyond the production stage.

The Tornado was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF), Italian Air Force and RSAF during the 1991 Gulf War, in which the Tornado conducted many low-altitude penetrating strike missions. The Tornados of various operators were also used in conflicts in the former Yugoslavia during the Bosnian War and Kosovo War, the Iraq War, Libya during the Libyan civil war, as well as smaller roles in Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria. Including all variants, 992 aircraft were built.

And so on to the kit itself, Revell GR1.Mk 1, as you all probably know this kits has been around for a long time, but why Revell are you making new boxes for old kits, it’s quite visible that the dies have worn out, due to the lack of detail missing especially on the sides of the aircraft and some top bits.

I purchased 2 of these kits due to what I was about to do I could potentially see a few accidents down the line, and these kits are becoming a little difficult to get hold off.

So I decided to add lights in the cockpit as well as the normal places, strobe, and under carriage , just thought it would add a little different dimension, ( wish  I hadn’t, ) on reflection it was again, but hay ho onwards and upwards.

fit issues as normal with and old kit, lots of sanding and lots and lots of re scribing.

it was at this time I decided to add a sound chip might as well jump in completely and do the whole electric thing.

My intention was to have this in the traditional very paint scream, but there are lots out there so I went for the desert brown, adding contrast with green and grey, the sound kit was from Jennifer smith ( jsminiatures@gmail.com ) She also programmed the correct light sequence from video I sent her, dam that girl is good.

Most of what you see is strait out the box with the below as extras

I used flight path after-market items to any to mention

    resin pilots

    Xtracrylix paints from Hannants

    Tamiya paints

    Vallejo varnish

    Enjoy

    Mike

This is one of benchmark models of this year. Superlative quality and build, the model itself is top drawer. but the lighting enhances it-masterful.

Brilliant. I can imagine the lights were a pain, but it really makes the model stand out.

Outstanding work Mike - a brilliant 1/32 Tonka. I know because I can see the work that went into it the Flightpath set alone is very extensive.

I have one of these with all the AM stuff waiting in the stash. I hadn't intended lighting it (or even thought of it until now) but seeing yours I might just give it a go.

                    Exceptional work.

                    Well done
