    Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito FBVI

    Hi all;

    After almost a year, I have finally finished the Tamiya big Mossie. I had a disaster with it - despite a gloss coat, the decals silvered badly, and when I tried to remove them, they refused to leave. So, I had to strip the model back down to bare plastic, and start again  . That then meant I had no stencil decals  - I used an Xtradecal set for the main markings, but the sheet has no stencil details. No problem  - Avieology do a 1/32 Mossie stencil sheet...except that it was out of print. So, after a 6-month wait, they at last re-ran it, and I pounced. It's a superb model, as you'd expect from Tamiya; precise engineering, and fantastic detail; it's just a pity their decals are rubbish!

    So, at long last, here she is, finished as a 45 Sqn machine, based in India 1945. Sorry there aren't any more pics - she's a bit big for my photo booth!!

      Well worth the wait Andy I'm glad you persevered!! I like the way you have left the engine exposed so we can see all your hard work! Well done.

        She looks beautifully done.  I have the Tammy Mossie in my stash as well as the HKM one I am building now and due to decals being the real weakness of these Tammy superkits I bought a set of paint masks for mine.

        if you have not tried paint masks instead of decals you should give it a go on a future kit.  They are no harder to apply and the painted on look is so much better.  You still need to use the decals for stencils but that no big deal.

          I used masks with the 1/32 Tamiya Corsair

              Looks great, Andy - no signs of the build trauma! It's an interesting scheme you've chosen, and nice to see something different. I agree about Tamiya decals.

                      brilliant work mate, the exposed engine really adds to it's appearance.

                      fyi, the tamiya decals are always rubbish.

                              This is one of those models that is a great teaching tool about the airplane itself. Bravo!
